Maynard Short: Outrage ludicrous
Saturday, August 11, 2012
Steamboat Springs City Council member Sonya Macys criticized City Manager Jon Roberts for using “Obamacare” as a description of President Barack Obama’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. I took a few minutes to check out public usage of the term Obamacare and had the following results:
■ New York Times articles on Google: 10
■ Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee articles on Google: 8
■ Latest issue of National Review: I stopped counting at 32
■ Congressional Budget Office: 18
■ United States Supreme Court articles on Google: 10
■ Democratic National Committee articles on Google: 9
I gave up after the above.
Macys’ outrage seems ludicrous when you look at the common usage. I suggest that Obamacare is now part of the language and will be an entry in the dictionary next year.

How dare the great unwashed presume to attach the President's name to his signature piece of legislation. I wonder if Ms. Macys finds discussions of "the Bush tax cuts" to be just as objectionable.
