Steamboat tennis player wins big

— Hayden Snyder said it’s the difficulty of the sport that draws him to tennis. He was plenty happy Sunday as he overcame a tough field of competitors to win the Rolling Hills Junior Indoor Open in Boulder.

“It felt pretty good,” said Snyder, 12. “It was definitely hard, and (Sunday) definitely had the two hardest matches I played.”

Snyder won four times through the weekend, capping that run off with a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the finals.

“The kid was playing really hard and consistent, so I had to hit it as hard as I could and aim for the corners,” Snyder said. “In the second set, he started to get more angry.”

Snyder said the win was important because it qualified him for a May tournament in Steamboat Springs.
