Steamboat Springs “Cabaret” is going back to its roots.
The Depot Art Center is where the Steamboat-inspired sketch comedy show took hold as an annual comedic tradition decades ago, and now “Cabaret 2012” will make a triumphant return to the historic home of the Steamboat Springs Arts Council.
“The Arts Council is excited to bring the historic ‘Cabaret’ back to the Eleanor Bliss Center for the Arts,” Arts Council artistic director Park Myers said. The Arts Council, which puts on “Cabaret” as a fundraiser each year, is celebrating its 40th anniversary.
“We wanted to encourage the community to celebrate the Arts Council and celebrate what ‘Cabaret’ is historically.”
Because the intimate venue is a fraction of the size of the Strings Music Pavilion, where the event was held last year, the Steamboat Springs Arts Council will be offering more shows.
“Cabaret” will be performed at 7 p.m. May 10; 6 and 8:30 p.m. May 11; and 6 and 8:30 p.m. May 12. Tickets are $30, of which $20 is a tax-deductible donation, and are available at the Depot Art Center and All That Jazz.
Also, in an effort to revive “Cabaret’s” original vision as a member-appreciation event, the Arts Council is opened up ticket sales Tuesday exclusively for Arts Council members. The remaining tickets will go on sale to the public at 9 a.m. April 17.
