The Independent Life Center is sponsoring NAMI’s Colorado Visions for parents and caretakers of kids with brain chemistry disorders, including Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, tourettes, Oppositional defiant disorder, autism, bi-polar and others. The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association is offering free quit kits for those trying to quit smoking or using smokeless tobacco. Veterinary clinics to offer free exams, rabies vaccines
Four veterinary clinics in Steamboat Springs, in coordination with The Colorado Veterinary Medical Association and 9News, are participating in the 9PetCheck, according to a news release.
9PetCheck is an effort to help economically disadvantaged pet owners get wellness examinations and rabies vaccinations for their pets Saturday and Sunday. Participating clinics are Pet Kare Clinic, Mt. Werner Veterinary Hospital, Ski Town Veterinary Services and Steamboat Veterinary Hospital.
Pet owners living on a restricted or low income or those who have recently lost their jobs should call 1-855-699-6397 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. today to make an appointment. Appointments will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, according to the release.
Parent Empowerment talk planned for 6 p.m. April 17
A Parent Empowerment Series talk titled “Your Kids and Sex”is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 17 at Sk8 Church, 2851 Riverside Plaza. The talk aims to help parents understand and respond to the sexual realities their teens are facing. Topics include:
■ The top three health risks for sexually active teens.
■ What teens wish their parents would say and do when it comes to the topic of sex.
■ How to engage the subject of sex with children at different ages.
■ Helping children be prepared for sexual integrity in their relationships and protected from sexual predators.
The event is sponsored by Grand Futures Prevention Coalition, Sk8 Church, EpicParent.tv and Steamboat Springs Pregnancy Resource Center.
