There is a recommended donation of $3 per lunch for those 60 and older and $6 for those younger than 60. Steamboat Springs will be flushing hydrants in April

The city of Steamboat Springs will be flushing fire hydrants during April. This may cause a slight discoloration in your water. The water is safe and the discoloration will disappear if you run your water for a short time. If it does not clear up or you have other concerns, call 970-871-6303 or 970-871-8209.

Volunteers needed to help local pack large container

Mamadou Niass, a local West African, has collected used goods from across Routt County to send to his village in Sorimiale, Mauritania. Volunteers are needed at noon Tuesday at Westside Storage on 13th Street to move the goods into a large shipping container. Show up or call Luther at 970-870-9675 or 970-846-5580.

Nominations accepted for annual health care awards

Nominations are being accepted for fourth annual Doc Willett Health Care Heritage Awards, which will be held Aug. 24 at Strings Music Pavilion. The awards highlight the current quality and scope of health care while paying tribute to the roots of hospital care in Routt County, according to a news release.

Nominations for the Health Care Community Advocate and Health Care Professional awards are due by 5 p.m. May 4. The criteria for the Health Care Community Advocate award are a resident of the Yampa Valley whose efforts have resulted in improving the health, available services or health care environment to benefit the community. The criteria for the Health Care Professional award are a health care professional who has spent a significant portion of his or her career in delivering direct patient care or services to individuals.

Steamboat middle school hosts its annual tree sale

Steamboat Springs Middle School hosts its annual Everything Outdoor Steamboat tree sale from Tuesday to May 4. Pickup day is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 11 at the school. Orders can be taken at trees@sssd.k12.co.us, 970-871-3568 or the school.

Strawberry Park book fair starts at 8 a.m. Thursday

The Strawberry Park Elementary School Book Fair Luau is from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday to April 19. The event includes an art show from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 14 at the school. Bring a picnic dinner and participate in contests, crafts, dance and more.

Council on Aging sponsors class Thursday on Medicare

Routt County Council on Aging is sponsoring a Medicare class from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. The class is geared toward those new to Medicare and will answer questions about which portions to enroll in and free services to which subscribers are entitled. Success Steps luncheon is planned for Thursday

A Success Steps luncheon titled “Managing Your Working Capital Cycle for Success” is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Steamboat Smokehouse, 912 Lincoln Ave.

Topics include maximizing your income stream, managing your expense cycle, managing working capital through the business cycle, measuring your working capital process and tips for successful cash management.

Oak Creek to Steamboat vanpool has 4 openings

The Oak Creek to Steamboat Springs vanpool, sponsored by Routt County, has openings for four riders. The service is $6 per day roundtrip, and riders have access to a taxi ride home for an emergency during the workday. For more information, call vanpool driver Stacy Hayes at 970-846-6240. The vanpool is made possible by a grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation Job Access and Reverse Commute program and a donation from the Trappers Lake Sierra Club.
