Steamboat Springs You’ll notice a few changes to Saturday's newspaper, and I wanted to explain them.
First, we’re bringing Share Steamboat Today back to the paper Mondays through Saturdays. You can find this feature on page 19 of Saturday's newspaper.
Share Steamboat Today is an outlet for us to tell readers what is happening in our newspaper, magazine, TV and Internet products. Perhaps more importantly, it’s a place for us to share your work — your cool photos, your interesting tidbits and your children’s birthdays. All you have to do to get featured in Share Steamboat Today is email us at share@SteamboatToday.com.
Next, you’ll notice we tightened up our comics pages, keeping the most popular and discontinuing those that are less popular. The comics pages have been condensed to a single page, and the popular Mallard Fillmore strip from the ViewPoints page has been shifted to the comics pages. Mallard now is the first comic strip on the page.
By moving Mallard Fillmore, we’ve opened up space on the ViewPoints pages for more letters and columns. We are moving away from our longstanding practice of running letters to the editor Wednesdays and Sundays. Instead, we’re going to start publishing letters as they come in. We want more local voices on our opinion pages and hope we’ll get more submissions by publishing letters daily.
You can send a letter to Editor Brent Boyer by emailing editor@SteamboatToday.com or by submitting it under the “share” tab at SteamboatToday.com. Such submissions should be limited to 600 words.
One other change: We have discontinued horoscopes as a feature in the newspaper. The reader survey we completed in August showed that horoscopes were the least read feature of more than 50 items we asked about.
If you have questions about these changes or anything else having to do with the newspaper, give me a call at 970-871-4202. Better yet, come see me at Coffee and a Newspaper from 7 to 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Steamboat Pilot & Today. I’ll provide coffee, muffins and, hopefully, answers to your questions.
