Steamboat Springs — Hayden’s final community potluck dinner and barn dance of the season will feature some special guests Saturday night.

The two artists in residence from Colorado Art Ranch and an artist who spent time in Hayden last summer will present their work during the event from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Saturday at Yampa Valley Feeds. The event is free, but guests are asked to bring a dish.

Poets Hanyong Jeong, of South Korea, and Cam Scott, of Carbondale, who worked in Hayden this month, will present. So will sculptor Amy Laugesen, who last summer studied Yampa Valley’s quarter horse founding sires Old Fred and Peter McCue, which inspired her Japanese-style pottery.

Colorado Art Ranch Executive Director Grant Pound also is scheduled to speak.

Yampa Valley Feeds owner Tammie Delaney said that since the artists started visiting last summer, they helped her realize what an amazing place Hayden is. She wants the community to experience that.

“To me, what hit me when these artists came last year was seeing the community and region through different eyes,” she said. “They see it in a perspective, I think through time, (that) we take for granted.”

Saturday’s Potluck Dinner and Barn Dance is the sixth of the summer, Delaney said.

She said after dinner, basic dance instruction would be offered at 7:30 p.m. before country swing dancing starts at 8 p.m. Rodney McGowan is back to provide the music.

Delaney said in spite of the busy weekend, she hopes everyone can attend.

“The whole premise of this is getting together as a community, knowing your neighbors and having fun together,” she said.
