Steamboat Springs There is something about the third quarter and the Hayden High School football team.
The Tigers have played well in the first halves of each of its three games before falling apart in the third frame. Friday at Grand Valley was no different.
Hayden trailed just 14-7 at the half before Grand Valley burst for 20 third-quarter points and ran away with a 41-7 win.
The Tigers (1-2 overall) have given up 55 third-quarter points this season.
“We have to get that third quarter figured out in a hurry,” Tigers coach Shawn Baumgartner said.
After the Cardinals took an early 7-0 lead, the Tigers tied it up at 7 at the end of the first quarter with a two-yard Ryan Domson touchdown run.
To begin the third quarter, Grand Valley completed a 70-yard halfback pass to take control. Hayden turned the ball over two times in the second half and Grand Valley capitalized.
Hayden returns to action at 7 p.m. Friday at Middle Park.
