The Soroco High School football team overcame a big early deficit and saw the score change hands four times before finally falling, 40-28, on Saturday at South Park.
The Rams trailed, 21-0, early in the second quarter before a touchdown and 2-point conversion cut the lead to 21-8 at halftime.
Soroco scored two consecutive touchdowns in the third to take a 22-21 lead. The Burros answered with a touchdown to make it 27-22 before the Rams again scored, making it 28-27.
One more South Park touchdown made it 33-28 with four minutes left in the game. Soroco had moved the ball to the South Park 40-yard line when quarterback Nic Paxton threw an interception that the Burros returned for a touchdown.
“In that first half, we dug ourselves a hole,” Rams coach David Bruner said. “We just had to work too hard to get back into the game.”
Soroco next plays at 1 p.m. Saturday at Plateau Valley.
