Steamboat Springs The Soroco High School volleyball team improved as Saturday went along, and when the Rams were finished, they were pretty happy with the results.
Soroco won two of three matches at a Leadville tournament and walked away with a second-place trophy.
“I’m proud of those girls,” Rams coach Kim Reeves said. “That’s the first trophy we’ve gotten since I’ve been the coach, and we’re really excited about it.
Saturday’s wins came after the team struggled early to adjust as varsity setter Mackenzie Carnahan was too ill to play. Senior Lauryn Bruggink stepped into her place, and the team came around.
Soroco bounced back from a 25-12, 25-21 first-match loss to James Irwin Charter School with a 22-25, 25-21, 15-5 victory against Steamboat Springs’ junior varsity team.
The Rams rounded out their day with a 25-20, 25-16 win against host Lake County.
Lindsay Miles led the squad with 15 kills, and Shelby Miles had 10 digs.
