I was so happy to see Jan Fritz honored as the Health Care Community Advocate this year. Jan has been diligently serving this community for so long.
I can never repay my gratitude for the role she played as my personal health care advocate. She worked with my family almost 15 years ago, when I was diagnosed with Burkitt’s lymphoma at age 13. I had to travel to Children’s Hospital in Denver for treatment, and Jan played a major role in caring for me between rounds of chemo. I always looked forward to her visits to our home, even though she often came armed with needles for some sort of shot or to take my blood for labs.
She was compassionate and funny and made me feel like more than just a cancer patient. Her presence and care not only comforted me as a terrified child facing cancer, but also inspired me to become a nurse myself. Steamboat is lucky to have a woman like her, and I know how truly blessed I am to have her in my life.
