Steamboat Springs — After the second campaign finance period deadline passed last week, the committee promoting the tax to supplement the winter air service program still leads all local fundraising efforts.

Steamboat Citizens to Regain Seats & Secure Our Economy reported $17,426 in available funds during the reporting period that stretched from Oct. 7 to Oct. 23, including more than $11,500 in new contributions. It spent more than $10,300 during the period.

The finance reports were due Oct. 28. It was the second of three reporting periods. The final reporting deadline is Dec. 1.

Major contributors supporting the campaign efforts to promote winter air service tax include Terry Sports, $5,000; B&K Distributing, $2,500; Starwood Hotels & Resorts, $1,500; and Yampa Valley Construction Trades Association, $1,000. The sales tax measure would generate an estimated $1.3 million a year to supplement the program that provides revenue guarantees to airlines that fly into Yampa Valley Regional Airport during the ski season.

The campaign spent most of its money on printing, mail and copy services, but also spent nearly $2,000 on social media and photo work.

The committee reported more than $40,000 in cash and nonmonetary contributions during the first reporting period, which ended Oct. 6 and was due Oct. 11. It reported spending nearly $30,000 during that period.

In addition to issue committees — including medical marijuana business advocate Sensible Steamboat — candidates for Steamboat Springs City Council and Steamboat and South Routt school boards were required to filed reports by the second deadline.

Only Steamboat Springs School Board candidate Rebecca Williams, who is being opposed by Sandra Sharp for the District 5 seat, filed a report. Candidates don’t have to file reports if they don’t have contributions or expenditures to report.

No committees filed reports to oppose the air service tax or to support medical marijuana bans in the county, Steamboat Springs, Oak Creek or Yampa.
