Ellen Pugh: Oppose oil, gas wells
Thursday, October 27, 2011
Having oil and gas wells in our area will not make us rich. We will get smog, smell, dust, traffic, pollution of water and air, loss of wildlife habitat, loss of property value, decrease in tourist dollars as the number of wells and pollution increases and we will get pushed around by the oil company representatives. If you live near one, your life will be full of frequent “earthquakes”; 24/7 noise; obnoxious odors along with headaches, nausea and dizziness; large truck traffic on the same roads your children, pets and families walk; and chemical spills and disruption of water supply. You could even lose your mortgage, as lenders cannot resell homes with wells on the property. Is this what we want for Steamboat? Make your voices heard at committee and planning meetings, and fight for the homes, views and peace that we all value.

I totally agree with Ellen. We don't want anything dirty in Routt County! Definitely don't want anything that will produce jobs and bring dollars into the area. We need to leave this type of stuff to those dirty counties like Moffat and Rio Blanco. Better yet, we shouldn't be touching that nasty stuff in this country at all. We should just buy it from some other, dirty country. We should only have pretty, good smelling things in Steamboat. By the way, when are we going to cap those nasty springs in town?

Ellen you are absolutely right though sadly there are so many so ignoramouses like the ones listed above that don't care what happens to the environment or people's quality of life....I think the disconnected that don't understand the connection of destroying the earth to destroying ourselves outnumbers us millions to one. I attribute the last extinction of us, to the attitude above and the unwillingness of people to compromise our comfortable lifestyles.

Hear that, However? You're a "disconnected ignoramous" who doesn't even understand your "disconnection"!

However you should call yourself Whatever, because you obviously don't care about the water and air quality that make living here so great. I am not saying it is any better to contaminate these things elsewhere either. These gas and oil drilling companies using fracing techniques have ruined lives and even killed people in Garfield County, Texas, PA, all over the country. People get sick. Groundwater is contaminated. The air is turned brown. The chemicals that come back up from 1.5 miles underground are worse than what is pumped down there. Then it is "burned off" into the atmosphere before being pumped somewhere to be refined even further. Natural gas is not clean energy. No fossil fuel is.
