Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs Police Department reported that a Taser was used on a man who officers said was resisting arrest Thursday morning.
A Routt County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was helping police also was hurt during the incident, Steamboat police Sgt. Gerard Geis said. Undersheriff Ray Birch said the deputy was treated for a knee injury at Yampa Valley Medical Center and released. Birch said the deputy had returned to work.
Geis said the incident began when officers spotted a habitual traffic offender driving. Geis said John Paul Ferrugia, 40, of Steamboat, tried to lose police and was found walking from his car. While officers were trying to take the man into custody, Geis said Ferrugia resisted and was combative. That is when the Taser was used on the man.
Ferrugia was arrested on suspicion of driving under revocation, second-degree assault and resisting arrest.
