Gary R. Burman: Occupy Steamboat

I would like to thank the community of Steamboat Springs and the Steamboat Springs Police Department for all the support we received while standing on the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Fifth Street with our Occupy Steamboat protest signs. The police not only helped us deal with an obnoxious drunk who was yelling obscenities when he tried to join us, they also helped when a conspiracy theorist harassed us and assaulted me.

What I and the rest of the 99 percent of the population are not grateful for is how our political system has become riddled with corruption and problems of every sort. The Occupy Wall Street movement is a catalyst for positive change that will reach all corners of our country. For example, I marched in Denver with well more than 1,000 people on Saturday. The Denver police praised us, and we praised the Denver police. We are the 99 percent, and our movement is growing daily.

On Jan. 21, 2010, in the case of Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission, the U.S. Supreme Court granted corporations and unions full citizen status, giving them freedom to contribute unlimited amounts to political campaigns. That was the nail in the coffin that destroyed what little we had left of real democracy. With the massive amounts of money that corporations are capable of generating, they are able to exert far greater influence in politics than the individual taxpayer, effectively disenfranchising most of us — the 99 percent. In a nutshell, our votes don’t count.

Democracy is defined as rule by the people where all people have an equal say in government. Plutocracy is defined as government by the wealthy — legalized corruption at its finest — and that is what we have now.

We need real campaign funding reform and true democracy. To restore democracy, each person’s vote needs to count the same as the next. Campaign funding must be 100 percent transparent, regulated and capped so each candidate has the same amount to spend.

The Occupy Wall Street movement will grow bigger, louder and stronger, and it won’t go away until true democracy is restored in our country.

Well well well, we finally have recognition that Obama is as corrupt as they come. Absolutely zero transparency of donations, especially the ones he received from the Gaza strip and the ones he receives from his Crony friends who he pays back with our tax dollars, like Solyndra and the Unions you so love. The Union bosses don't give a crud about their members, just their power and continued influence in the White House. They have associated themselves with the Global Communist movement, they are responsible for such bad manufacturing contracts through the years that we have very little US manufacturing at all. Why don't you march on the White House because it has been Obama bailing out the big Co's with our tax dollars? Obama has on his jobs advisory panel Jeffrey Imelt who's Co paid zero taxes and made billions in profit while receiving tax dollars and is using our donations to build business in China along with GM. You are not 99%, you are anti free market Capitalism and pro Crony Capitalist Socialism. Pitch your tent but the true Tea Party represents the America of free market Capitalism and limited government, unlike the desires of the Occupy crowd who are paid by Soros to help get Obama reelected in 2012.

Thank you for your letter, Gary, and for bringing the Occupy Wall Street movement to Steamboat. All the best.

Mr. Burman, Three suggestions I hope you will find of use: 1) If you are within the Statute of Limitations, you should file suit against the educational institutions you attended. 2) If the big-ass, extended-cab, fuel-sucking, major-corporation-that-trades-on-Wall-Street produced truck with the Oregon plates and silly slogans on it is yours, please lead by example and sell it and start walking. It gives you the appearance of being that of which you whine and bitch about. 3) In the future, when you are spotted at City Market, it would be best if you stop using their plastic bags and instead use a virus-infested, cloth bag. Otherwise, you will not be welcome amongst our local nanny-state socialists who believe free-will is to be choked to death at all costs. Besides, those bags, from that store, have been seen on Mt. Everest killing Sherpas and in the Pacific Ocean killing Flipper. Hope that helps!

Rob, Seriously, where are you coming from. Did you drink too much coffee today. Absolutely none of what you wrote has any relevance to the article or Gary's cause. Some corporate donations as well as many people involved in sub prime lending were downright criminal in nature. It seems you might have a beef with Gary, but bringing up irrelevant points to his argument, well, just makes you look .......

I didn't know a group had formed in Steamboat, but I am very glad to hear it. My adult daughter went to Denver last weekend to participate in the protest. Could you perhaps start a Facebook page to let more of us know about upcoming occupy dates?

No need to bag on Rob because he's right on. Love how Burman signs his letter with his Lincoln City, Oregon address. Hey, Burman, how about you take your hypocritical butt to Oregon to picket and complain about the horrible corporate greed! And if you want to make your point relevant, quit driving your vehicle, wear animal skins in place of the American-made clothing and shoes your sporting, and use papyrus as your poster instead of the cardboard made by the greedy corporate machine.

Of course Burman and his ilk were happy with how things have gone at Civic Center Park in Denver because the Colorado State Patrol(who is in charge of law enforcement on that government property)lacks the stones to enforce the illegal camping that's taking place there. Perhaps greater good would be served if Burman and his cronies all decided to find gainful employment and not spend their days protesting. Welcome to capitalism, Comrade Burman.

The question I have for Gary, and the rest of the crowd, which will tell me all I need to know is: Do you think a return to basic constitutional principles will achieve your goals??? It is unfortunate but predictable that the right wing media dismissed and insulted so many of these people before asking them this question.

Even as a libertarian I share common ground with many of them: bailouts were wrong, corporations have too many cronies in DC, etc. Does that make me a socialist, too???

This "enemy of my enemy is my friend" political cronyism BS is wearing thin. If we can't identify with and embrace legitimate gripes because the entirety of thecrowd surrounding that message isn't our exact mirror image then the republic is doomed.

0

seeuski 3 years, 7 months ago

There may be many who are joining these crowds with honorable intentions but this uprising was the brainchild of people who don't give a damn about your fist question. They are very vocal in their anti Capitalist goals. They are backed by George Soros and many are being paid through the Tides Foundation and other Soros funding machines. They have been running help wanted adds on Craigs list to find extras for these events. If they were sincere in this they would march on the White House, that is who has been directing our money to the big friendly donor Banks and failing Green Job Corporations that are running with the money. Even the Muslim Brotherhood is now joining these groups to add their form of contempt for the Jews that are being blamed for all the economic woes. This looks like the 1930's redeux.

0

seeuski 3 years, 7 months ago

Right wing media? You must have missed Geraldo's hour this weekend where he worked hard to show these freaks in a good light. The media could report the truth as to who is behind this movement but then they would be put on the White House snitch list, interesting how the Dems and the White House supports this uprising but was so antagonistic and disdainful of the Tea Party. Wink wink, figure that one out.(sarc)

Seeuski on a conspiracy rant (AGAIN). Not ecerything that is agaist your belief structure is funded by George Soros. What was that Acorn budget again See? For all of the so called evil they did, you seem unable to answer that simple question.

Tell us See, just how large was the Acorn organization?

How much have the Koch brothers contributed?

SEIU? State Street? UAW? GM? GE? Pfeizer?

Where are the current slate of candidates getting their money from and who is funding the 501 3c organizations that are managing to influence your thoughts?

The money in politics has become obscene and has tainted the election process. Unlimited corporate donations have allowed foreign interests to influence American politics and they are trying to eliminate the voice of the average american citizen.

Left and Right are both using shadow money to influence politics. The Supreme court decision to allow unlimited corporate funding is showing you the consequences of that action. In my opinion only two or three changes are needed to right the ship.

  1. Term limits for ALL politicians. (Local reps, state reps, senators, congressmen) No more than 10 years in office. 2 terms for Senators, 5 terms for congressmen. This carries to elected office at all levels including our county commissioners.

2, No campaign funds carried over from election to election. At the end of each campaign, all excess campaign funds are given to thepublic debt. This includes ALL elected officials at all levels.

  1. Complete transparency in campaign finance. We have the right to know who is funding your campaign. Notice this is not a right/left thing. ALL funding needs to be transparent.

Now why on earth would Obama and the Dems be antagaonistic and disdainful towards the Tea Party? The same Tea Party backed by the deep pockets of the Koch Brothers. The same Tea Party darlings of Fox News. The same Tea Party who shows no respect towards Obama and the Dems. It would take a genius to figure that one out. Respect is a two way street. Needs to be earned. Something sorely lacking in today's politics. I'd imagine Obama would show respect to the Tea Party around the same time you show respect to the OWS movement. Name calling and false "facts" (No Tea Partier has ever been arrested at a rally) show your true colors.

0

the_Lizard 3 years, 7 months ago

Trump_Suit, I seriously think term limits would help alleviate many of the problems politicians consider business as usual when it comes to things like corruption, crony capitalism, and self indulgent enrichment at tax payers expense. I would love to see people serving this country as the term, public servant, would imply they should. Service to the country should not create wealth for those that serve, and no fabulous retirment package. I think we would see less pork, and maybe, just maybe a few statesmen. I can't understand why Routt County Commisioners aren't term limited either , other counties have term limited theirs. Also, not that anyone cares except me, but in my previous post I meant republic and democracy little r and d. Geezy....

The dying rants of the failed followers of a Marxist poser. So sad.

Let me help you guys with your pain, see if this makes you feel better.

Bush Bush Bush, Koch bros Koch bros Koch bros, FOX FOX FOX.......

Any better? Hey look, the times they are not a lyin, I told you turkeys in 2008 what we would have under Obama, high unemployment and basically Jimmy Carter on steroids. You called me all sorts of great names, even some here who claim to be Independent and Conservatives attacked me, I have nothing but love for this Country and only dealt in what I saw as the facts, and the facts that I saw then are still true today but even worse. We do have a White House full of Marxists, we do have a terrible economy globally, we do have a POTUS who is killing off Capitalism through the growth of big Government and the takeover of private sector industry, we do have a Potus who sleeps with the special interests like the Unions and big Corporations such as GE, Goldman Sachs and others, we do have have Crony Capitalism with our stimulus dollars being used as a slush fund in Obama's reelection campaign, Solyndra and the other Green jobs co's were nothing more than a payback to those that paid big bucks to the Obama campaign in 2008. "Fast and Furious", the open borders with which to allow those weapons to travel and then the hypocrisy of blaming the 2nd amendment and calling for the dream act along with suing AZ for trying to protect the Citizens of that State. The death panels in Obamacare which have since been proven to be a part of the law as Sarah Palin took heat for pointing out. Live your last little bit of utopia fellas for 2012 is the end of this nightmare unless Obama pulls a Hugo Chavez. Occupy that.

0

seeuski 3 years, 7 months ago

And as for respect being earned, Obama was elected by many who now are a part of the Tea Party, many you live amongst in Steamboat, and it is not the people who are to earn his damn respect, it is his sorry butt as an elected official who should always show respect for those whom he governs. At least Bush showed respect to the totally insane Code Pinker, Cindy Sheehan, when she sat out in front of his ranch for so many weeks. He even had her inside to speak. Obama? He told us to get in the back of the bus, among other catchy phrases that were antagonistic. Don't preach that garbage here Trout.

As I recall, your primary rant in 2008 was about birth certificates and acorn election fraud. How did those turn out for you See?

0

seeuski 3 years, 7 months ago

You must not have been listening as usual back then trump. I railed about Obama's Marxist associations, his Muslim terrorist associations, his radical associations, his radical Priest of 20 years, ACORN, the Radke Bro's, The Unions, his Alinsky teachings and his lack of a past. As far as the birth certificate, we were forced to wait for 3 years and then amazingly something that was touted as the original was trotted out to much fanfare by Barry Soetoro/Barack Hussein Obama and this new document which doesn't match the old one has been proven a forgery by many document and Adobe file experts. One thing that has always bothered me about the BC he claims is the Race category designation. How does African describe a race? There are white Africans and Black Africans, but in 1961 it is well established that African nor Black would have been the term used under race. But the BC controversy at this point is minor compared to things like "fast and furious" Solyndra and the rest of his corruption. I guess my question to you trump is this, how has Obama's Presidency turned out for you since 2008?

And as I touched on it earlier and as more details come forth the Occupy moron movement is an antisemitic movement funded by George Soros through the Tides Foundation and their publication out of Canada, Adbusters, a hugely Jew hating group. And the disgusting thing is the model they are using, the 1930's Nazi blame the Jews deja vuex. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/more-anti-semitism-at-occupy-los-angeles/

Occupy moron. That's rich. Did you come up with that all on your own, or is that the latest label from the Koch Brothers and Fox News? Posting false "facts", conspiracy theories, and name calling. Got anything else?

0

Troutguy 3 years, 7 months ago

Oh, and posting a link from a "news source" like theblaze.com, founded by king conspircay theorist Glenn Beck doesn't pack much credibility. Keep trying though. Throw enough s#%* on the wall and some is bound to stick, right?

0

seeuski 3 years, 7 months ago

Your fallback position as usual. When all else fails and the truth is against you turn to Alinsky.

0

seeuski 3 years, 7 months ago

I can use other sources as well, you can't hide the truth by calling people you don't agree with or like names.

0

trump_suit 3 years, 7 months ago

Seeuski, you couldn't find the truth if it slapped you in the face. Your version of the "facts" is slanted so far to the right that all of the important details have fallen off to be forever disgarded.

Given that our economy was bleeding 400,000 - 700,000 jobs a MONTH during the last six months of the Bush administration, Obama has worked out just OK.

Failure? No, I would not call it a failure. Hope and Change? Not exactly. The grades on this president are not in yet, but they are certainly not as high as hoped but not nearly as bad as Fox News would have you beleive.

Your basic problem is that Fox is the furthest left infomation that you allow into your brain, the rest of it is conspiracy drivel.

0

seeuski 3 years, 7 months ago

Here you go trump, proof of the Anarchists behind Occupy and the funding in the largest amount is from the Tides Foundation which is a George Soros front group. Give it a rest as to the Koch bro's and FOX conspiracy that you are parroting, it just makes you look dumberer. http://www.adbusters.org/campaigns/occupywallstreet http://activistcash.com/organization_financials.cfm/o/36-adbusters

0

seeuski 3 years, 7 months ago

And one thing about your stupid diatribes regarding FOX News, they don't report this stuff so please for your own sake and sanity, try another avenue, like maybe Al Gore since he invented the Internet which is where most news travels these days. How else would I have access to the Anarchists own detailed financial info? And one last thing, the saddest part of all of this is that the majority of the useful idiots with their utopia dreams at these protests are being used by the big Globalists as the many tools they need to arrive at their goal of World dominance. They are expendable and will be in the end when the deed is done. History proves itself.

0

0

Troutguy 3 years, 7 months ago

Huh? How did I turn to Alinsky? And I didn't call anybody names. I was calling you out for the Occupy moron remark. As for your George Soros infatuation, the only reason I keep bringing up the Koch brothers is that they are the exact same thing. One funds Left leaning agendas, one funds right leaning agendas. Please enlighten us on what exactly the difference between Soros and the Koch brothers is. And activistcash.com isn't any better. Keep trying though. Don't think I'd trust a web site founded by a lobbyist for the tobacco companies.

this forum, boiling over with toxic, testosterone laden messages is reminiscient (but obviously on a far different physical scale) of the perpetual intolerance between Hutus and Tutsis, Sunnis and Shi'ites, Jews and WWII Germans & Serbs and Bosnians....

is it possible that our vesuvial political polarization and turmoil will only be mitigated by physically migrating like-minded individuals to certain locales, regions and states? corporations would hardly tolerate it, but rhetorically, should the south have been allowed to secede (and I'm not speaking about slavery but a different way of life and value system)? religion, social clubs and affiliations once were avenues for getting people together. now many are the converse and only 9-11 like catastrophic events seem to unite opposing groups of americans.

skibob as for your fast and furious rant from today's news http://news.yahoo.com/ap-exclusive-second-bush-era-gun-smuggling-probe-202043091.html AP Exclusive: Second Bush-era gun-smuggling probe WASHINGTON (AP) — A second Bush administration gun-trafficking investigation has surfaced using the same controversial tactic for which congressional Republicans have been criticizing the Obama administration.

The tactic, called "gun walking," is already under investigation by the Justice Department's inspector general and by congressional Republicans, who have criticized the administration of Democratic President Barack Obama for letting it happen in an operation called "Fast and Furious".

Emails obtained by The Associated Press show how in a 2007 investigation in Phoenix, agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives — depending on Mexican authorities to follow up — let guns "walk" across the border in an effort to identify higher-ups in gun networks. Justice Department policy has long required that illicit arms shipments be intercepted whenever possible.

The 2007 probe operated out of the same ATF office that more recently ran the flawed Operation Fast and Furious. Both probes resulted in weapons disappearing across the border into Mexico, according to the emails. The 2007 probe was relatively small — involving over 200 weapons, just a dozen of which ended up in Mexico as a result of gun-walking. Fast and Furious involved over 2,000 weapons, some 1,400 of which have not been recovered and an unknown number of which wound up in Mexico.

Earlier this month, it was disclosed that the gun-walking tactic didn't begin under Obama, but was also used in 2006 under his predecessor, George W. Bush. The probe, Operation Wide Receiver, was carried out by ATF's Tucson, Ariz., office and resulted in hundreds of guns being transferred to suspected arms traffickers.

The older gun-walking cases now coming to light from the Bush administration illustrate how ATF — particularly its Phoenix field division, encompassing Tucson, Ariz., as well as Phoenix — has struggled for years to counter criticism that its normal seize-and-arrest tactics never caught any trafficking kingpins and were little more than a minor irritant that didn't keep U.S. guns out of the hands of Mexican gangs.

Even those cases against low-level straw buyers are problematic for the ATF. There is no federal firearms trafficking law, making it difficult to prosecute cases. So law enforcement agencies resort to a wide variety of laws that do not carry stringent penalties — particularly for straw buyers.

0

steamboatsconscience 3 years, 7 months ago

Documents and emails relating to the 2007 case were produced or made available months ago to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, though the Republicans on the panel have said little about them. In the congressional investigation, committee chairman Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., has focused on the questions of what Obama's Attorney General, Eric Holder, knew about Fast and Furious, and when he knew it.

The 2007 probe began when an ATF agent identified several suspects from Mexico who bought weapons from a gun shop in Phoenix over a span of several months.

According to the emails obtained by AP, the probe ran into trouble after agents saw the same suspects buy additional weapons from the same store and followed the suspects south toward the border at Nogales, Ariz., on Sept. 27, 2007. ATF officials notified the government of Mexico to be on the lookout. ATF agents saw the vehicle the suspects were driving reach the Mexican side of the border, but 20 minutes later, Mexican law enforcement authorities informed ATF that they did not see the vehicle.

Committee spokesman Frederick Hill said the documents on the 2007 probe stand in contrast to statements "the Obama administration's Justice Department made to Congress in February 2011 that 'ATF makes every effort to interdict weapons that have been purchased illegally and prevent their transportation to Mexico.'"

Hill added that one difference between the 2007 incident and Operation Fast and Furious was that in the 2007 operation, "Mexican authorities were notified. However, in Operation Fast and Furious the Mexican authorities were deliberately kept in the dark."

The emails from the 2007 probe show there was concern that ATF in Arizona had engaged in a tactic that resulted in the guns disappearing inside Mexico.

"Have we discussed the strategy with the US Attorney's Office re letting the guns walk?" headquarters official William Hoover asked in an Oct. 4, 2007 email to William Newell, then ATF's special agent in charge of the Phoenix field division.

"Do we have this approval in writing?" asked Hoover. "Have we discussed and thought thru the consequences of same? Are we tracking south of the border? Same re US Attorney's Office. Did we find out why they missed the hand-off of the vehicle?"

At the time, Hoover was assistant director for the office of field operations. He was ATF's deputy director from May 2009 to September 2011 and is now special agent in charge of ATF's Washington, D.C., field division.

0

steamboatsconscience 3 years, 7 months ago

"Would like your opinion on a verbal approval from the US Attorney in Phoenix re the firearms walking," Hoover emailed ATF's senior legal counsel for field operations on Oct. 5, 2007. "This is a major investigation with huge political implications and great potential if all goes well. We must also be very prepared if it doesn't go well."

The lawyer, Anne Marie Paskalis, wrote back: "Sure. We will work this out. Perhaps a conference call ... to discuss what if any assurances they have received from USAO that this investigation is operating within the law and doj (Department of Justice) guidelines."

On Oct. 5, Hoover wrote Carson Carroll, then ATF's assistant director for enforcement programs and services at agency headquarters in Washington, D.C., saying "I do not want any firearms to go South until further notice. I expect a full briefing paper on my desk Tuesday morning from SAC Newell with every question answered. I will not allow this case to go forward until we have written documentation from the US Attorney's office re full and complete buy in. I do not want anyone briefed on this case until I approve the information. This includes anyone in Mexico."

On Oct. 6, Newell, the Phoenix SAC, wrote Carroll: "I think we both understand the extremely positive potential for a case such as this but at this point I'm so frustrated with this whole mess I'm shutting the case down and any further attempts to do something similar. We're done trying to pursue new and innovative initiatives — it's not worth the hassle."

Newell, as the special agent in charge of the Phoenix division, was at the center of Operation Fast and Furious. He has acknowledged that mistakes were made in the agency's handling of the operation, and has been reassigned to a Washington headquarters job.

Trout http://news.yahoo.com/long-ties-koch-brothers-key-cains-campaign-110518961.html Long ties to Koch brothers key to Cain's campaign IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain has cast himself as the outsider, the pizza magnate with real-world experience who will bring fresh ideas to the nation's capital. But Cain's economic ideas, support and organization have close ties to two billionaire brothers who bankroll right-leaning causes through their group Americans for Prosperity.

Cain's campaign manager and a number of aides have worked for Americans for Prosperity, or AFP, the advocacy group founded with support from billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, which lobbies for lower taxes and less government regulation and spending. Cain credits a businessman who served on an AFP advisory board with helping devise his "9-9-9" plan to rewrite the nation's tax code. And his years of speaking at AFP events have given the businessman and radio host a network of loyal grassroots fans.

The once little-known businessman's political activities are getting fresh scrutiny these days since he soared to the top of some national polls.

His links to the Koch brothers could undercut his outsider, non-political image among people who detest politics as usual and candidates connected with the party machine.

AFP tapped Cain as the public face of its "Prosperity Expansion Project," and he traveled the country in 2005 and 2006 speaking to activists who were starting state-based AFP chapters from Wisconsin to Virginia. Through his AFP work he met Mark Block, a longtime Wisconsin Republican operative hired to lead that state's AFP chapter in 2005 as he rebounded from an earlier campaign scandal that derailed his career.

Block and Cain sometimes traveled together as they built up AFP: Cain was the charismatic speaker preaching the ills of big government; Block was the operative helping with nuts and bolts.

When President Barack Obama's election helped spawn the tea party, Cain was positioned to take advantage. He became a draw at growing AFP-backed rallies, impressing activists with a mix of humor and hard-hitting rhetoric against Obama's stimulus, health care and budget policies.

0

steamboatsconscience 3 years, 7 months ago

Block is now Cain's campaign manager. Other aides who had done AFP work were also brought on board.

Cain's spokeswoman Ellen Carmichael, who recently left the campaign, was an AFP coordinator in Louisiana. His campaign's outside law firm is representing AFP in a case challenging Wisconsin campaign finance regulations. At least six other current and former paid employees and consultants for Cain's campaign have worked for AFP in various capacities.

And Cain has credited Rich Lowrie, a Cleveland businessman who served on AFP's board of advisors from 2005 to 2008, with being a key economic adviser and with helping to develop his plan to cut the corporate tax rate to 9 percent, impose a national sales tax of 9 percent and set a flat income tax rate of 9 percent

"He's got a national network now that perhaps he wouldn't have had 15 or 20 years ago because of his work with AFP," said Republican Party of Wisconsin Vice Chair Brian Schimming, who has introduced Cain at events in Wisconsin. "For a presidential candidate, that's obviously helpful to have." He said Cain was smart to hire Block. Cain's recent victories in straw polls in Florida and Minnesota highlight the importance of organizing supporters and Block, who has a deep network in the tea party, "gets that side of it," Schimming said. But Block has had his problems as well. He settled a suit in 2001 accusing him of illegally coordinating a Wisconsin Supreme Court justice's re-election with an outside group. Block agreed to pay $15,000 and sit out of politics for three years. While Cain is quick to promote his career at the helm of the Godfather's Pizza chain, his ties to AFP aren't something the candidate appears eager to highlight. His campaign did not respond to repeated messages seeking comment between Thursday and Sunday, and Cain does not include his AFP work on his biography on his website. But Cain continues to work with the group. While several other candidates will be at an Iowa Republican Party dinner on Nov. 4, Cain is scheduled to be in Washington mingling with activists at AFP's annual "Defending the American Dream" summit. He is the only confirmed presidential candidate for the event.

AFP spokesman Levi Russell said Cain has spoken at dozens of AFP rallies and events over the years to support a number of the group's activities. AFP has often covered his travel expenses or paid a "pretty modest honorarium" but he has not been paid since becoming a presidential candidate, he said.

"He's a dynamic, pro-business speaker that connects well with our activists," Russell said. "AFP is a very large organization, and there is a natural overlap between Cain's message of fiscal responsibility and the basic principles that AFP advocates for."

A spokeswoman for the Koch brothers did not respond to The Associated Press's request for comment on Cain.

Wow ski you sure know how to twist facts to fit your agenda...... guess that story and the Bush gun walking story are complete fabrications? you still don't get it do you? They are ALL complicit. Greed and lust for power rules the world . The teabaggers that got elected dont give a damn about what is best for the country, these are people who now make $175,000 a year some of whom have probably never made more than $40,000 a year, with a guaranteed pension and their only concern is how to get elected again. The Repubs are in disarray, with their "flavor of the week" presidential candidates, and their obstructionist tactics are going to drive the moderates and independent voters away. No way any of the motley crew they are hoisting up can win. So you better stock up your "Fortress of Solitude" now and don't forget your SP doll.

I didn't hear him enter, but my nostrils flared at the scent: Pyramid Pachouli. There was only one joker is LA sensitive enough to wear that scent, and I had to find out, WHO HE WAS.

Good afternoon, Mr -- Danger. My name is Rocky Rococo.

Thanks, half-pint -- ya just saved me a lot of investigative work.

Maybe yes -- maybe no. Do you know what THIS is?

(I had to think -- what cruel game was he playing?)

Uh, yeah. That's a brown paper bag.

Very good. Now look inside the bag, Mr. Danger. What do you see?

That's easy. That's a pickle.

Very good. Now look inside the pickle. What do you see?

That's just a two-bit ring from a Crackerback Jox.

Marxism is very much a religion. As with many religions, it offers to its followers the benifit of freedom from thought. As with many religions, its doctrines are senseless and destructive. As with many religions, it offers membership in a group which allows the individual to submerge his doubts and forget them, but at the expense of surrendering his own reason. As with many religions, it attempts to convince people that they can be led into the "promised land".

"The left says of the right, "You fools, it is demonstrable that dinosaurs lived one hundred million years ago, we can prove it, how can you say the earth was created in 4000 BC? " Yet this supposed folly on the part of the right is far less detrimental to society than the left's love of Marxism, which 100 years of evidence shows leads to only shortages, despotism, and murder."

As with most religions, faith is an absolute necessity for anyone wishing to "cling to" Marxism.

The Occupy Wal Street is by far the most poorly reported story ever. If the 99% gang new that Barack Obama was the most bought and paid for Wal Street President or that the Tea Party new they were in the same boat as the College students and the un and under employed or that the Federal Reserve Bank was 1 of the main reasons we are in this mess. Or that is was Bill Clinton that sign the bill that got rid of the Glass-Steagall act that caused all the problems that Bush and Obama are being blame for. Or why do they want to raise taxes on people that make over $125,000 a yr or $250,000 per couple to 40% when Google, GE, BP, ExxonMobile, Apple, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, and the list go on pay no more than 8% by keeping their money offshore. But they want to devide us, keep the middle and upper middle class fighting each other while the 1% guys like Obama, Bush, Bill Gates, Oppra, Michael Moore, and other liers laugh at us all the way to the Bank. Seems to me if 99% percent were told the truth Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, and Michael Moore would be running for the hills. Help Save America Vote Ron Paul 2012, Learn the truth about False Flag Terror and 9-11 do not fall into the Two party trap that pins us against each other that's what they want us fighting each other so we don't look at them and their lies. Find commen ground with a group other than your own. A guy in the Tea party is getting shafted by the same Globalist Bankers as the College student , the Small Business Owner, the Retired Teacher or the Waiter, Taxi Driver, Bar Tender you name it They pay little intrest and charge huge fees for loans, lose our retirement funds but when their investments go south they get their Cronies to bail them out then make loans to guys that want to move their operation to mainland China like Apple and Dell have done. We are now just starting to feel the effects of decisions made by George HW Bush and Bill Clinton.

canyonwind, you are being manipulated by the Alex Jones wacko machine. Good luck wasting your time with Ron Paul, and I get your drift about those "bloodsucking bankers", I have seen the tirades of the Nazi's,Anarchists, the Black Teacher from LA, The Muslim Brotherhood etc. blaming those pesky Zionist/Jew bankers for the woes of the world. That is what the common attraction is for the Ron Paul gang and why we see the Ron Paul banner being marched along with the banners of the other hate groups involved with this uprising. 9/11 truthers have a friend in Paul. yvb, Can't the same be said about the Tea Party?

And it's incredible that you compare 99%ers to Nazis. Really? Time to give the Nazi comparison a rest. There is nobody or nothing that can be compared to the atrocities undertaken by Hitler.

I guess if a 'movement' is bought and paid for by Conservatives and the Koch brothers, such as the Tea Party, all is OK. But if it's a movement that has left leaning values, we are experiencing the second coming of Hitler. Must be exhausting coming up with this crap.

0

seeuski 3 years, 7 months ago

The attempt by the Communists to steal the Tea Party message and keep their puppet in office in order to finish off free market Capitalism will not succeed. We have two competing ideologies and there are no intersections as is evidenced by the so called spokesman in the above video. "We are making no demands because we won't negotiate, we want what we want" Pretty much says it all. The Tea Party principles for those that are brain dead leftists. 1. Limited Government 2. Low Taxes 3. Free Markets 4. Strong National Defense 5. Individual Rights and Responsibilities

We are not for an end to Capitalism but an end to Crony Capitalism. We have never had the support of the following groups. 1. Worker Party USA 2. SEIU 3. American Nazi's 4. Socialists of America 5. Muslim Brotherhood 6. Anarchists 7. Arab Spring 8. Ahmadenajad 9. Obama 10. Democrats and Progressive Republicans

We have never been arrested or left any venue in less than better shape than we found it. When those who are offensive try to infiltrate our gatherings we immediately identify them and tell them to leave. We have seen the Progressives attempt this during the healthcare debates. It is known that Van Jones and the Tides Foundation are behind this Occupy event and that this was his promised answer to the Tea Parties. Good luck with your movement but we are still here and we are still clear. We the people will vote out the Progressives in 2012 and finally return prosperity to an ailing USA under free market Capitalism that once again opens the door to individuals who work hard. Prosper or fail without big Brother, that is what made us great.

0

No common thread here as you would never here the end of it in the media if this woman made such remarks at a Tea Party rally. They had to fire her hateful antisemitic butt. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/10/19/BA401LJ9CQ.DTL&tsp=1

Why? This is common throughout these Occupy events. The full story and why these Unions are the real problem in the USA, they are in bed with the Obama gang and the rest of the Democrats and the reason that Obama has come out in support of Occupy and the Occupy movement has left the Obama Administration at peace along with the Democrats who so richly benefit from the Unions and big Corps like GE. http://www.ktla.com/videobeta/?watchId=89a1a4f5-2a93-4dbc-9f88-9f704e8f07ef

Thats actually why I posed that question the other day to Gary: "Do you think a return to basic constitutional principals will achieve your goals?" Still haven't heard back from him...........

Trout, THAT ONE QUESTION (and the way people would answer it) is the difference between the Tea Party and OWS. All other arguments, about Nazis, racists, tea baggers, hate speech, etc fall away mute and meaningless. For me (and I believe for the Tea Party) the answer to that simple question is a simple "Hell Yes"! Thats all I want from my fellow man, period. I do not believe the same can be said of most of the OWS'ers. For most of them the constitution is like Holy Water to a vampire. It is simply something they can not embrace. How about you, Trout???

0

canyonwind 3 years, 7 months ago

Some of these OWS people are very stupid this one grope wants a Global Government, if they think they have no voice now in a nation of 310,000,000 just what will they gain when the 7 Billion people are being told what to do and how to live by the INNER PARTY the 100,000 to 700,000 people that will control the planet under this plan. The Proles that are standing in the rain today will be forced into forced labor and reeducation camps or just be shot in the head. But they will call it something like "a new awakening" instead of getting shot in the head. And at that point Government will be the new and only religion and it will not be volentary. So have at and enjoy your last days of freedom because what you are asking for is total enslavment on a good day.

0

Troutguy 3 years, 7 months ago

That's rich. The Tea Party is Constitutional, but OWS is not. Really? You might want to re-check your copy of the constitution. Mine says something about free speech. I wasn't aware that the make-up of the group is what makes it unconstitutional. That's why hate groups such as your favorite reference, the Nazi party, can have marches and protests, etc. It's what gives the Tea Party it's right to assemble and speak it's mind. And it's what gives OWS it's right to assemble and speak it's mind. Quit trying to wrap only yourself and the Tea Party inclusively in the Constitution. Last I checked, Everyone's included.

And See. Give the Soros thing a rest. Until you can tell me how he is any different than the Koch brothers and the Tea Party, just stop. Both the Kochs and Soros fund their respective parties. What's your point?

0

seeuski 3 years, 7 months ago

No Trout, sorry, until I decide the threat of Soros and his desire to destroy America with his useful idiot parade have been ended will I go silently into the night as you desire. Your leftwing Koch Bro's talking points don't matter to me because you can't provide any evidence as I can about my postings on the claims I am making. As far as the Constitution goes, the Occupy gang has no respect for it and if they could get there grubby paws on the original they would piss on it. Spare me. Here is some more proof of what I have been posting here my brother from another planet. Enjoy. Answer Slednecks question Trout, don't just claim your Constitutional rights, answer whether the Constitution IS right.

0

sledneck 3 years, 7 months ago

I didn't say the Tea Party WAS constitutional. I didn't say OWS was un-constitutional. I said the Tea Party EMBRACED it while OWS could not and would not embrace the constitution as a solution to their percieved problems... for the same reason as a vampire cant look at a crucifix.

Ask not who the constitution protects, (it protects us all) But, rather ask who protects the constitution... (and it ain't OWS) (Apologies to the last democrat worth spit)

Leftists, apparently like you, Trout, can not or will not affirm their faith in the principles enumerated in the constitution. Tells me all I need to know. Spin it as you wish.

0

MrTaiChi 3 years, 7 months ago

@ Troutguy

"There is nobody or nothing that can be compared to the atrocities undertaken by Hitler."

The opinion of the number depends on the source, but most historians think that Lenin, Stalin and Mao starved, executed, murdered or worked to death over 200 million people. Forty million, more or less, died in WW II. These grim and offensive comparisons don't take into account the Khmer Rouge, Japanese death camps and medical experiments, Ruanda, and aggressive Islamists of another era, (the governor of Cyprus was skinned alive a few hundred years ago).

Trout, what you said is the political equivalent of a Freudian slip. It confirms that our educational system since WW II uses Hitler as the touchstone for the ultimate evil villain, omitting to include, oh say, Mao, who was worse in many ways. Objectively the only argument that can be mustered to support this reaction is that the National Socialists set about using the technology of the modern state to murder selected groups of people, whereas Mao and the Soviets mostly were content to let starvation or the elements do their murdering, although Mao told a bureaucrat who indicated that the populace was restive to shoot more of them. There may be some self loathing because Hitler was European, tinged with a hint of racism that non-Europeans can't be expected to behave to civilized norms.

Our educational conditioning makes it socially unacceptable to label a group as 'communists', whereas there is no such stigma to label them 'nazis'. Why is that?

0

Troutguy 3 years, 7 months ago

Hahaha. Classic. See demands that I answer a question by another poster all the while refusing to answer my question. Can't make this stuff up. So, according to the purity test, I must wrap myself in the Constitution and claim it as gospel. Sounds like another purity pledge from the GOteaParty. Sorry. I don't play that game. Especially when GOteaParty members want to get rid of a few of the elements of our Constitutuion (Rand Paul and abolishing the 14th Amendment. Paul Broun wants to repeal the 16th & 17th Amendment). Seperation of church and state. Not in GOteaParty land. Maybe if OWS wore funny hats, carried signs that say "Get your Govt. hands off my medicare", and were packin heat, they would get more respect from the Right?
The GOteaParty want smaller Govt. They want Govt. out of our lives. Not when it comes to Abortion, MMj, gay marriage, etc. Hypocites. GOteaParty members railing against the stimulus package in public, but privately lobbying the Obama Administration for Stimulus money for their states. Hypocrites.

@MrTaiChi Your comparisons to Mao and the Soviets sounds alot like the GOteaParty. Content to let starvation and the elements do their murdering. Who needs health care. Can't afford it? Tough. Lose your job? Need food stamps to feed the family? Tough. Unemplyment benefits? Not on my watch. Massive flooding ruined your city and your home? Tough. We're gonna hold off on sending any help until we get what we want.

0

trump_suit 3 years, 7 months ago

Seems to me that there is absolutely nothing in American politics that even compares to the atrocities of WWII. Can we not group agree to never again compare today's politcians to Nazi's? Surely there are other ways to make your point.

0

sledneck 3 years, 7 months ago

The left wants to get rid of the sceond amendment. The right AND the left are butchering the fourth ammendment. The left ignores the 9th and 10th all the time. The left uses the 8th to protect all manner of vermin from justice. The left and right has so abused the 10th as to set precedent to render the federal government omnipotent; to the point that we now are being told by uncle scam that we, as so-called "free people" MUST buy a certain product or face legal consequences.

Everybody in Washington DC lives in glass houses, dude... EVERYBODY. And this childish mantra leftists hide behind that goes: "but theyyyy started it" is a childish attempt to avoid accountability for the things your representatives do at YOUR behest.

I stand by my previous statement... Leftisis can not affirm their faith in the constitution for the same reason vampires can't drink holy water. I will expand on that by saying: They can not do so because deep in their hearts they hate the concept of the individual, his creator, and governments' limitations, that flows so strongly through that and other founding doccuments.

I don't care what you wrap yourself in.

0

seeuski 3 years, 7 months ago

Great statement sledneck.

Pretty telling, every time a lefty gets cornered they revert to the name calling and finger pointing, let alone the fairy tales that the Republicans want people to "die quickly" as trout so conveniently parroted, I think I heard Biden make similar irrational statements this week. Something about Women will get raped more if we don't pass the new and improved stimulus. Very nice coming from the VP, and Obama claiming the Republicans want "dirty air, dirty water" and whatever else he poops out of his trap on the campaign trail, which by the way is illegal to be using taxpayer money for, but hey, who's counting infractions anymore anyway?

@trump_suit the Nazi reference in this string has been used to indicate that the American Nazi Party has joined the Occupy protesters and not as a name calling tact. The antisemitism is coming from multiple events Nationwide and being ignored by the MSM who spared no tactic in trying to tar and feather the innocent Tea Party with the tags of Racist, Bigoted etc.
So really, after the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords your side demanded a similar softening of the hateful Rhetoric, by the right. The rules never seem to apply to the left Alinskyites, we really don't fit the prescription you make and as such have nothing to ease back on. I will share the truth when need be but I have not called any one of our leaders Hitler.

November 2004 EdWatch National Education Conference, Bachmann said the “normalization” of homosexuality would lead to “desensitization”: “Very effective way to do this with a bunch of second graders, is take a picture of ‘The Lion King’ for instance, and a teacher might say, ‘Do you know that the music for this movie was written by a gay man?’ The message is: I’m better at what I do, because I’m gay.”

Monday morning and there are pics from the OWS events of the weekend. Headlining is the Muslim Brotherhood. http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2011/10/muslim-brotherhood-linked-cair-anti-american-prayers-at-occupy-wall-street.html

Oh I know what they are planning, violence. I have heard it from them directly and it was in the plans from the start as expressed by SEIU's Jeffery Lerner. You know SEIU, the Obama Army that Obama said would be as well armed and funded as the US Military.

So ole Mr. Conscience, don't worry, others are aware and prepared too. And NO, I never felt this was a joke, I thought it was the start of a civil war between two different life philosophies, Our Constitutional one and the Marxist/Anarchist one. I know where I stand.

http://dailybail.com/home/video-oakland-police-shoot-protester-helping-scott-olsen-to.html A protester shows his wound after the police shot him with a rubber bullet while he helped carry Scott Olsen. The bullet had to be removed from his body.

The Oakland police violated their own rules (page 9), and violated the Geneva Convention against targeting wounded combatants or those attempting to render medical aid. Amnesty International has condemned the use of tear gas as well as the actions of Mayor Jean Quan of Oakland, who said the measures were justified because protesters threw rocks. The Obama administration and Eric Holder have shown no interest in investigating.

Guess Obama & Holder are on your side now?

SEIUski Note to anyone with eyes, I am posting links to news reports of actual events surrounding the police willful and knowing violation of the civil right against peaceful demonstrations http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/10/29/occupy-nashville-protesters-arrested-for-second-straight-night/ Occupy Nashville Protesters Arrested For Second Straight Night Tennessee state troopers for the second straight night arrested Wall Street protesters for defying a new nighttime curfew imposed by Republican Gov. Bill Haslam in an effort to disband an encampment near the state Capitol. And for a second time, a Nashville night judge dismissed arrest warrants of the arrested protesters. The Tennessean newspaper reports that Magistrate Tom Nelson told troopers delivering the protesters to jail that he could "find no authority anywhere for anyone to authorize a curfew anywhere on Legislative Plaza." Perhaps the legal system is listening to both sides.

http://www.cnn.com/2011/10/31/us/tennessee-occupy-protests/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Not saying that I am in support of OWS, but the way the conservative base is attacking them makes me wonder just how concerned they are about this movement. There are loons on both the left and the right. What we need is for the two traditional parties to get off of their respective a$$e$ and make some common sense changes to the current revenue/expenditure equations.

The finger pointing and partisan arguements are not getting the problem solved and we need to balance this budget badly. A few minor cuts, a few minor tax increases, close a loophole or two and the job is done. It's not that different than balancing your families budget. Times are tight and a couple of hundred a month has to go what could you do to cut $200 per month out of your budget? Why should the gov't be any different.

How many of us would get a night job to keep the mortgage paid? The Bush tax cuts were never paid for with expenditure cuts and need to be reversed. I fail to understand how it can be argued that the Gov't does not need more revenue. Why is it any different than your families house payment. We got ourselves into this mess and it is time to buckle down and get ourselves out. Neither revenue increases nor expenditure cuts will get us out of this alone, we need both.

If you were fully right trump I would fully agree with you but you are missing some big issues and that is the agenda that we are currently run under. Obama is taking Crony Capitalism to new and loftier heights than ever before seen and unless a more Conservative limited Government is in place we will cease to exist as a Republic. You can't ignore the entitlements and the BIG Corporate/Union gifts along with the annual deficit of nearly 2 trillion and try and fix it with a few billion here and there. You need to take a look at the actual numbers and then reassess what you know. Social engineering through Fannie/Freddie, GM the new Infrastructure bank, EX-IM bank, gifts to GE, Solyndra and the rest of the green failures, the Unions and the Arab Spring along with bailing out the EU, and let me not forget Obamacare which has not even done it's damage yet. So while you are on the right track you are still headed towards oncoming cliffs. And as for the OWS, a list of the supporters and the attendees will prove too ugly to use as a comparison of the right or Tea Party. The list is available if I must.

I understand how much you hate the Obama socialist agenda and the HUGE deficeits being racked up by our marxist POTUS. However, there are a couple of points missing from your history.

The two primary budget initiatives by the Bush administration (exluding the wars) were:

  1. THe Bush Tax cuts - never paid for by reducing expenses approx 7-800 Billion
  2. Medicare Part D - never paid for with a tax or offsetting cut. approx 4-500 Billion.

If Obama is running such a huge socialist economy with our current 1.5 Trillion deficeit, then how do you explain the Bush budget running about 1.2 Trillion deficeits for the last 2-3 years of that administration. (Sure I know it was the Dem's fault)

Repeal Medicare Part D or pay for it. Repeal the Bush tax cuts and the deficeit is almost gone right there. Republicans seem hesitant to acknowledge that their initiatives in the 2000's are a major part of the current problem. After all, look how many jobs those tax cuts have created since 2005.

By the way See, I absolutely love the way you can spin several far flung conspiracy theories together into one large anti-Obama rant. Your skill there is truly impressive. Truth should never stand in the way of a good conspiracy now whould it?

SEIU They forgot to put Ghandi, Mother Theresa and Jesus on that list...... Pete Seeger a supporter? Guess cleaning up the Hudson River is a Commie pinko plot. :( And don't forget Arlo, he's the one who really started it:

And can you, can you imagine fifty people a day,I said fifty people a day walking in singin a bar of Alice's Restaurant and walking out. And friends they may thinks it's a movement.

And that's what it is , the Alice's Restaurant Anti-Massacre Movement, and all you got to do to join is sing it the next time it come's around on the guitar."

So into the vacuum steps "Occupy Wall Street", and out of the Constitution working group comes this. Not bomb-throwing anarchy, not some sort of wild proposal to re-write The Constitution to be a leftist, Marxist dream ticket, but an actual statement of principles that is fully in concordance with SAM ADAMS, THOMAS JEFFERSON and the rest of those who were part of the REAL Tea Party.

http://www.givemeliberty.org/occupy/ WE THE PEOPLE'S STATEMENT OF BELIEFS:

The Constitution Working Group of Occupy Wall Street (OWS) has produced the following Statement of Beliefs as a platform for recommended future actions to solve the Nation's problems, including BAILOUTS, CORPORATE PERSONHOOD, WAR, UNSOUND MONEY AND DEBT.

The Constitution Working Group asks that these Beliefs now be considered by ALL People in and out of the Occupy movement. Ponder these and make known your approval:

· All People have Natural Rights -- Simply Because They Are Alive;

· We the People have Instituted Government to Secure our Rights;

· According to our Governing Documents, Sovereignty rests with the People - Here in America, the People have the Ultimate Power;

· The Constitution & Declaration of Independence are inextricably intertwined;

· Every Principle, Prohibition, Restriction and Mandate of our Governing Documents represents a Guaranteed, Individual Right;

· The People are the Source of All Political Power - no one gets into office unless WE put them there;

· All Elected Officials are limited by our written Constitutions - If Not Authorized in writing, such acts are UNLAWFUL;

· The Constitution is not a Menu;

· The Constitution cannot Defend Itself;

· Individuals and Small Groups cannot prevail in attempts to hold government accountable to their State and Federal Constitutions;

· A Critical Mass is needed, i.e., 3-5% of population;

· Very few in and out of public office can recognize when government is obeying or violating

the Constitution;

· The way our system of governance is working is in sharp contrast to the way it is designed to work;

· We don't change the Constitution by ignoring it; there are provisions within it to make changes;

· All that is happening is our fault; the People have allowed it to happen;

· The People have always had the ultimate power in America and have always been the final arbiters of constitutionality;

· Most of what is causing our National distress NOW can be traced back to violations of the Constitution.

This Statement of Beliefs is now posted on www.OccupyTheConstitution.org.

Go there. Study It. Signify your approval.

The government needs to hear from millions of us united in purpose and spirit.

WE ARE THE PEOPLE OF AMERICA AND WE ARE FREE

Very nice, we already have the documents, no need for a rewrite. You read through these declarations and see if Obama should not only be Impeached, but arrested.

http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/declaration_transcript.html

Unfortunately for the OWS movement, nowhere in the Declarations or Constitution does it give one group of people the rights over the properties of another group of people but you could have your people, @subconscience, march at the White House because it is Obama who has been taking our money and giving it to the very institutions your Anarchist friends are threatening. http://www.tennessean.com/article/20111104/NEWS01/311040072/Occupy-Nashville-Republican-students-find-common-ground?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|FRONTPAGE Occupy Nashville, Republican students find common ground

Everything happened just the way Occupy Nashville protesters said it would. The group of young Republicans from Vanderbilt University marched up to the group of Occupy Nashville protesters sitting on the steps to Legislative Plaza on Thursday evening. The small group of about 20 students was armed with signs and chanting. The group was quickly drowned out by a roar of cheers and applause from the nearly 150 Occupy Nashville protesters. Some called out, “We love you” to the students as the two groups faced each other: the students standing at the foot of the stairs and the Occupy Nashville group sitting at the entrance to the plaza.

Chanting from the students, “We are the debt generation!” was quickly amplified as Occupy Nashville protesters started joining in. It wasn’t long after that the two groups combined. Many shook hands and broke into small discussion groups, intent upon hearing each other’s views.

“We were so pleased that they accepted our welcome,” said William Howell, 64, one of the Occupy Nashville protesters who was arrested during last week’s protests. “I hope we continue to hear voices from that point of view. We have found that during our talks, we have a lot of the same interests.”

From the first moment Occupy Nashville protesters heard about the Vanderbilt students’ counterprotest, they had planned a warm welcome. Promises of cookies were made early on and actually carried out.

Laura Wallace, 29, who has been with Occupy Nashville off and on since its first rally, said she it was wonderful to see the protesters from Vanderbilt.

“It’s amazing that these people can come and exercise their First Amendment rights,” she said. “I think this is a great first step in coming together as the 99 percent.”

As two Occupiers and Vanderbilt students engaged in friendly conversation nearby, Tyler Copus, 19, a freshman engineering major at Vanderbilt, calmly said he didn’t understand why the Occupy group was fixating on Wall Street and the state Capitol.

“I think they’re taking the wrong direction,” he said. “They need to be at the White House. I think it’s a completely unfounded movement.”

But Copus also thought it was great that the groups could come together.

“PEOPLE SHOULD BE ABLE TO EXPRESS THEIR VIEWS, EVEN IF THEY DON'T AGREE WITH EACH OTHER,” he said. Alex Eichner, 18, a freshman secondary education major at Vanderbilt, agreed. “I was pleasantly surprised tonight,” the New York native said. “I don’t think anyone should be able to look at any argument unless they see both sides first. Honestly, I don’t know what their goal is and I don’t think they know what their goal is, but everyone has the right to believe what they want and say how they feel. They’re out here doing that.”

Dear Media: you missed this information regarding Oakland - None of the "violence" of yesterdays demonstration was planned by, condoned, or in any way sanctioned by the general assembly at Grant Plaza (the protest base and "organization" for lack of better word) or the New York general assembly at Freedom Plaza that the Oakland assembly had originally gathered in solidarity of ("the movement" for those still unsure of the who/what/where). So all claims that broken windows and burning dumpsters "represent" Occupy Wall Street or Occupy Whatever should be called out for what they are: transparent attempts to manipulate the masses that only get their "information" from corporate media.

  • Do a Google search for "Oakland Liberation Front" right now. They are a self invented, radicalized, pseudo-anarchist group styled after Black Bloc that attempted to subvert the protests yesterday. They have not been involved in any way with holding space in Grant Park in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street to help raise awareness regarding corporate influence in governement, and have not participated in any way with any of the General Assemblies. They are not part of Occupy Oakland at all. Here, I'll do the google search for you: http://www.google.com/search?gcx=c&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=oakland+liberation+front
  • This is the flyer they were handing out around Grant Park the day before the General Strike march to try to provoke, and undermine the movement and demonstration with violence and vandalism:

Steamboatconscience, If the OWS crowd really believed as you stated, it seems to me they would be protesting at government facilities, in front of the capitol, at 1700 Pensylvania Ave, etc.

It they believed everything in "We the peoples statement of beliefs" then why didn't they just join the Tea Party? Those are Tea Party beliefs too.

Why do you think they went to wall st instead?

0

steamboatsconscience 3 years, 6 months ago

sled I thought the White House is at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Did they move it?

Occupy DC March @ the US Treasury Building. October 15th 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxnias...

Occupy DC Marching on the White House October 15th http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56A7gc...!

why didn't they just join the Tea Party? The tea party has co opted the repubs and are holding this country hostage with their obstructionism by not allowing Congress to compromise on anything, thus polarizing and paralyzing our country. Why hasn't the TP embraced OWS if their goals are the same? Because the TP has strayed from their original intent. They now have power in DC and we all know how easily power corrupts, right? I mean these obscure TP Senators and Congesspersons that got elected now have a $175,000 job and guaranteed pensions. They are now part of the problem.

Why do you think they went to wall st instead? Wall Street is the power broker that buys politicians on both sides to do their bidding. Wall Street runs DC and has for a long time.

Some light reading. NBC/WSJ October poll The new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll shows that Americans support the Occupy Wall Street protests by a two-to-one margin (37 percent in favor, 18 percent opposed) while more Americans view the Tea Party negatively (28 percent in favor, 41 percent opposed). This means the Occupy Wall Street protests have a net favorability of +19 percent while the Tea Party has a net favorability of -13 percent.

A new Time Magazine poll found an even more positive results for Occupy Wall Street, showing 54 percent held a favorable view of the movement, compared to just 27 percent with a favorable view of the Tea Party. In the Time poll, just 23 percent had an unfavorable view of Occupy Wall street, for a net rating of +31 percent. Meanwhile, 33 percent had an unfavorable view of the Tea Party, giving it a a net rating of -6 percent. http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/MSNBC/Sections/NEWS/A_Politics/October_Poll.pdf

My bad on the 1700. "...holding the country hostage with obstructionism by not allowing congress to compromise..." I thought that compromising ( the standards found in the constitution) is what you guys are saying got us into this mess? Isn't it also contradictory to claim that people who were lawfully put into office by "we the people" could be holding "we the people" hostage? Were they not elected by a majority vote, as the constitution you claim to champion requires?

"...they are now part of the problem." By that logic isn't anyone we elect to fix the problem going to become "part of the problem" before the problem can be fixed? Was is not the intent of the founders to have "obscure congresspersons" rather than carreer politicians?

"...wall st. runs dc..." Your statement of beliefs says that ..."the people have allowed it to happen..." "... the people have always had the ultimate power and have been the final arbiters of...? So which is it; the peoples fault or wall streets? To say that wall street runs dc (by the way I agree with that) is to also admit that the american electorate has abdicated its constitutional responsibility, no?

And why do you speak to me about "favorability" and "poll numbers"? Do you realize that the founders of this nation were wanted men? They were viewed by the majority as traitors? Their poll numbers were in the toilet.

As long as we are tossing reading recommendations around, let me give you just a few, ok? The Law by Frederich Bastiat , Don't worry, it's an easy read that explains the original and only legitimate purpose of the law. Anyone who claims to long for the by-gone days of a constitutional republic would do well to know the principles enumerated in this classic, 17th century work. Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell, As the title indicates... but not quite as "basic" as the economics of OWS so you have to give it time to sink in. Anything else by Sowell, Ludwig von Mises or Hayek is worth the time as well.

The schools and colleges have failed the OWS folks, and they will fail you too, my friend. You must educate yourself if you actually want to know how economics and law is supposed to work. There is way more to making a representative republic function and prosper than just pulling the lever and getting your pellet.

subconscience is defending the Obama agenda of Socialism and this OWS movement is a total opposite of the Tea Party movement. This OWS plan was put in place by the Van Jones crew many months ago and promised by him as a counter measure to the Tea Party. The SEIU also promised at the same time an army for Obama as stated by Trumpka. The only way these Anarchists can win and keep Obama in power in 2012 is to confuse enough mushbrain people that they are the "REAL Tea Party" as subconscience claimed above and have them vote against the people who are trying to save our Constitutional Republic from the Anarchists and Marxists who now have control of it in the form of the Progressives, mostly Dems. The proof here is subconscience himself, while Obama is guilty of massive cronyism which these numbsculls in the OWS movement seem to hate, they won't even acknowledge it, they blame victims and private industry for what their elected officials have been doing all along. Look at the Fannie/Freddie fiasco lately, I ranted about this issue on these forums when the FINREG(Dodd/Fwank) law was passed and the fact that it left Fannie/Freddie free from any scrutiny, and to make matters worse, Obama has had his dog Holder threaten Banks to make more bad loans in the inner cities during this crisis we are in. They want the taxpayers to pony up another $5 billion dollars while they give their CEO's $13.8 million in bonus's on top of their $million$ a year salaries. No, the lines are drawn and those of us who know the enemy of Capitalism will not be fooled by the Marxists. They won't accept our existing Constitution and Declaration and come up with a rewritten manifesto asking people to turn away from America and sign on to this crazy collectivism, if you want to live like Greece go for it, if you want to take this Country back from these loons and restore our Republic ending the madness then join the "original Tea Party". we are growing despite the attempts by the Soros funded Marxists at the Tides to divert real Americans toward their scheme through lies and propaganda.

And here is what "their type of Democracy" looks like. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/hundreds-of-occupy-d-c-protesters-block-conservatives-from-leaving-summit/

See any American flags? Unless of course they are stomping on them.

0

seeuski 3 years, 6 months ago

And as far as "the people allowing in to happen", the Progressives are the ones who win their seats in Government through the power of the Unions and Wall Street, Obama was the biggest benefactor in the 2008 elections and he is richly rewarding those same with bailouts and in the case of the many Solyndra's, $billions$ of taxpayers dollars. The hypocrisy here is too thick, that these freaks are pissed off at the very people they vote for. These are mostly Progressive Dem programs that have been raping the economy, not Conservative.

Lets see, they shut down a port that has been the target of SEIU, they vandalize a non-Union Whole Foods store that has been a target of SEIU, and we are told it is the bailouts by people like unconscience and they are the "REAL Tea Party", can anyone figure out that this is the Unions and that Obama is the desired beneficiary of these protests? Most won't fall for it for long as the new polling data that unconscience won't show indicates.

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/occupy-oakland-shut-down-a-port-already-struggling-for-survival/

"released today, show 30 percent of voters surveyed view the movement favorably, 39 percent unfavorably, with an additional 30 percent not hearing enough to have an opinion." http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/public-opinion-souring-on-occupy-wall-street/

The 30% that haven't seen enough are obviously ashamed moderates who wished it to be something other then what it is, an Anarchist party against Capitalism and America.

Again, just becuase you spew more venom than everyone else all added together does not make you right. You do however win the prize for finding and surfing the most inflammnatory rehetoric.

I predict that your anti-obama rants will end up much the same way the anti-mmj rants went. Your hardcore rhetoric and complete failure to compromise will ensure Obama's re-election. Just my opinion, I am sure yours is different.

Trump exactly. SEIUski You have to be SBVOR and somehow wormed your way back on here. Your rhetoric and his are identical. You both use the same news "sources" and hate Obama with a passion. Would I be correct? If not why dont you go visit him on his lonely blog and feed each others ego instead of spewing hate here.
http://sbvor.blogspot.com/ you are dismissed.

Pretty good laugh at these last two comments, thanks gentlemen. The truth is the truth and that's all there is and that's all I post. As I always have said in the past, I only post what I can back up, you may not like it and by attacking the sources that somehow lends to an imaginary reality? Sorry, that's your phantasy. And if Obama happens to manipulate the masses and the medium enough with the help of big daddy Soros to get re-elected we are all screwed, left and right. Dig? Fact!

And trump, as far as spewing venom, it is a good term for what is in charge of this Country because that is how bad the agenda is that we are experiencing with Soros/Obama in charge. It surely is venomous, look at the current debt now passing 15 $trillion$, what happened to Obama's lie about cutting the deficit in half by the 2nd year? Just one of many lies. And why is it that the most transparent President, his promise, is flat out refusing to honor the Congressional subpoena for the remainder of the Solyndra documents? After all it was he who promised that Biden would make sure that our money was safely spent. You guys ain't seen nothing, wait until the final GOP candidate is picked and how the pursuant ad campaigns use Obama's own words and record against him, he'll be applying for dogcatcher in 2013.

Are you high? Do you actually think that Tea Party and OWS are similar? Have you ever seen any Tea Party event where they went and inhabited private property and assaulted people? We are going to have a serious explosion in this Country and it will most likely be the OWS idiots attacking the Tea Party when we have our legally sanctioned marches and gatherings aimed at restoring Honor in this Country, not destroying whats left of it. Stop with your propaganda silly, it won't fly. Here is a new video of the SOB's hurting old folks, WOMEN, in DC this weekend. http://dailycaller.com/2011/11/05/chaos-video/#ooid=JpNWh5Mjqz1LVw-QZprwGCr0XoJdfZLh

Nice how the Lame Stream Media ignores this violence all while they made up false accusations against the Tea Party.

May peace enter the souls of the Commies and the Anarchists who are hoping to kill and destroy all that maid this Country great. I pray that some magical occurrence changes the hate in the hearts of these tormented souls and that we can all live together as friends. But I know reality sinks in unfortunately, and here is what the ugly truth reveals.

Heres your Tea Party scum. We'll start with Joe Walsh and his screaming at his constituents who were quite upset that he had sold out to the banksters, protecting them from their frauds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nb73zq...!

Ah, the party of personal responsibility, accountability and of course all things American provides us one more awesome example of those grand American values. I would argue that what we're really seeing is the actual values of the Republican party on display: Screw people, rip them off, then argue that nobody did anything wrong and that we can't actually regulate their conduct when it all blows up in their face -- indeed, we can't even force them to eat their own cooking. Oh yeah besides belittling his constituents he can't even own up to his own fiscal responsibility. http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/6720892-418/tea-party-rep.-joe-walsh-sued-for-100000-in-child-support Freshman U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh, a tax-bashing Tea Party champion who sharply lectures President Barack Obama and other Democrats on fiscal responsibility, owes more than $100,000 in child support to his ex-wife and three children, according to documents his ex-wife filed in their divorce case in December.

“Joe personally loaned his campaign $35,000, which, given that he failed to make any child support payments to Laura because he ‘had no money’ is surprising,” Laura Walsh’s attorneys wrote in a motion filed in December seeking $117,437 in back child support and interest. “Joe has paid himself back at least $14,200 for the loans he gave himself.”

Joe and Laura Walsh had been married 15 years when she filed for divorce in December 2002. The thickness of the court file reflects Laura Walsh’s nine years of trying to collect child support and expenses from a man who crusades against compromise. Laura Walsh went to court repeatedly over the past nine years to get him to pay up, sometimes even asking the court to garnish his wages, court records show.

In 2004, Laura Walsh complained in a motion that despite her ex-husband’s claims of poverty, he took a vacation to Mexico with his girlfriend and another to Italy.

Walsh was haunted during his campaign by disclosures of liens on his property from unpaid bills and staffers abandoning his campaign, saying he wasn’t paying them.

Keith Liscio, who said Walsh hired him to be campaign manager — Walsh disputes that — has sued Walsh for $20,000 in salary he said Walsh owes him. Both sides are trying to settle that case.

Staffers learned during the campaign that Walsh was driving on a suspended license. His license was suspended twice in 2008 for his failure to appear in court, and he was cited in 2009 for driving on a suspended license, according to the Illinois Secretary of State.

Yup the Teabaggers are just a bunch of "do as I say not as I do" panderers. Not who I want representing me, how about you?

Most Marxist butheads feel like you do.

And the term butheads is mild in comparison to the term the goof used in reference to the true Americans of the Tea Party. That's right knit hat, we are the real Americans and we are going to stand up and keep your Marxist/Anarchist/Criminal movement from destroying the USA. See you on the streets. And P.S. Joe Walsh was awesome for shutting those Libs up and putting them in their whiney place.

And yet the people of that district still chose Mr Walsh over his three-term democratic opponent.

Unless one wears impervious left-side (or right side) blinders, it is well known that both major parties have, within their ranks, some real duds. Mr Walsh seems like he is, quite possibly, one of those duds.

The mechanism for correction that will see Mr. Walsh out of office is the same one that brought him in.

What is ammusing to me is that people who view Obama's election as an act of sound-minded, decisive repudiation of Bush can simultaneously view the 2010 election as if it were "an unjust takeover" of government resulting in some "hostage situation".

The 2010 election was the same repudiation of Obama (mainly Obamacare) as the 2008 was of Bush. The 3 term opponent of Walsh seemed to be quite conservative for a democrat and, I believe, would have won re-election were it not for her vote in favor of Obamacare.

Walsh did not win the election so much as his opponent blew it with her support for legislation far outside the desires of the people, even the left-leaning people Illinois's 8th district.

At least one republican makes sense. http://www.benzinga.com/general/politics/11/11/2149497/ron-paul-versus-the-gop-peace-versus-perpetual-war Ron Paul Versus the GOP; Peace Versus Perpetual War

The scene at last night's CNN National Security debate was, at times, surreal. The backdrop for this year's GOP Presidential nomination could not be anymore clear. Do the American people want peace or do they favor Perpetual War, a Police State, and the blatant degradation of civil liberties that goes with it? Most of the GOP field showed a complete disdain for the U.S. Constitution and the principles that this country was founded on.

Then of course there is Ron Paul, who uses the Constitution to frame all of his political positions and has a pristine voting record upholding our founding document. It did not take long for Paul to draw a clear divide between him and his fellow Republicans on Tuesday evening.

The first question of the night had to do with the Patriot Act, which was passed hastily in the wake of 9/11. Newt Gingrich told the American people that he would like to not only extend the Patriot Act, but that "I'd look at strengthening [the Patriot Act] because I think the dangers are literally that great." This is an extremely controversial statement.

According to its original design, the USA Patriot Act should no longer even be around. Many of the provisions were to sunset beginning in December 2005. This of course did not happen. First President Bush in March of 2006, and then Barack Obama in May 2011 extended the legislation, which has been severely criticized due to its undermining of civil liberties.

Wikipedia reports: "Opponents of the law have criticized its authorization of indefinite detentions of immigrants; searches through which law enforcement officers search a home or business without the owner's or the occupant's permission or knowledge; the expanded use of National Security Letters, which allows the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to search telephone, e-mail, and financial records without a court order, and the expanded access of law enforcement agencies to business records, including library and financial records. Since its passage, several legal challenges have been brought against the act, and Federal courts have ruled that a number of provisions are unconstitutional."

The Patriot Act strikes at the very core of the 4th Amendment, and any interpretation of it which attempts to mitigate or marginalize this fact, should not be taken seriously. This legislation has laid the foundation for broad and unconstitutional intrusions by the Federal Government into the lives of American citizens.

0

steamboatsconscience 3 years, 6 months ago

Of course, Ron Paul recognizes the inherent danger embodied within the USA Patriot Act and stressed that the legislation is unpatriotic and conflicts with American values. He said, "That is unpatriotic because it undermines our liberty. We have drifted into a condition that we were warned against because our founders were very clear. They said don't be willing to sacrifice liberty for security."

The exact quote that Paul was referencing comes from Benjamin Franklin who said, "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Considering the gravity of the Patriot Act and the controversy which surrounds it, one would think that some of the other GOP contenders might be against it. Not exactly. While Jon Huntsmann took a position which was closer to Paul's, saying "I think we have to be very careful in protecting our liberties," the other contenders offered derivations of Gingrich's position that it should be strengthened and expanded.

A considerable portion of the rest of the debate consisted of the GOP Presidential nominees outlining highly antagonistic foreign policy positions. Despite the fact that the American people are clearly sick and tired of the endless wars and fear mongering, various candidates supported engaging Iran militarily, instituting a no-fly zone over Syria, escalating the drone attacks in Pakistan and Somalia, and keeping 100,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

These positions clashed significantly with Ron Paul, who over and over again has made the case for peace - a stance that the military itself supports, if campaign contributions are any indication. In the third quarter, Ron Paul raised more money from active duty military personnel than all of the other GOP candidates combined. The Republican party, however, does not want to seem to wake up to the fact that the American people and the American military have rejected Neocon foreign policy.

This schism in opinion between peace and more war, could end up costing the GOP the election. Ron Paul is attracting significant support within the GOP itself along with a broad contingent of independents and Democrats who have changed party allegiances in order to vote for him in the primary. Given the neoconservative foreign policy views that are being espoused by the other GOP candidates, it is very likely that Paul's expanding base will not vote for Romney, Gingrich or Cain (the other front-runners) in the general election if they get the GOP nomination.

0

steamboatsconscience 3 years, 6 months ago

This puts the Republican party in a very tricky position. If Paul's message of peace and liberty continues to gain momentum, but he does not gain the GOP nomination, many Paul supporters will likely write him in or stay at home for the general election. Despite Obama's abysmal approval rating and track record, this could be enough to carry him back into the White House. On the other hand, if Paul were to win the nomination, he has an excellent shot at unseating Obama.

He would garner the support of the GOP base, who is willing to do anything to make sure Obama is a one term President, while also attracting a huge number of independent and Democratic voters who have become disillusioned with the President's policies. In any event, Ron Paul is offering voters a clear-cut alternative to the entrenched neoconservative dogma of more war and less liberty, and the people are starting to wake up to his message.

Laugh of the day How Republicans are being taught to talk about Occupy Wall Street http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/republicans-being-taught-talk-occupy-wall-street-133707949.html The Republican Governors Association met this week in Florida to give GOP state executives a chance to rejuvenate, strategize and team-build. But during a plenary session on Wednesday, one question kept coming up: How can Republicans do a better job of talking about Occupy Wall Street?

"I'm so scared of this anti-Wall Street effort. I'm frightened to death," said Frank Luntz, a Republican strategist and one of the nation's foremost experts on crafting the perfect political message. "They're having an impact on what the American people think of capitalism." Luntz offered tips on how Republicans could discuss the grievances of the Occupiers, and help the governors better handle all these new questions from constituents about "income inequality" and "paying your fair share." Yahoo News sat in on the session, and counted 10 do's and don'ts from Luntz covering how Republicans should fight back by changing the way they discuss the movement. 1. Don't say 'capitalism.' "I'm trying to get that word removed and we're replacing it with either 'economic freedom' or 'free market,' " Luntz said. "The public . . . still prefers capitalism to socialism, but they think capitalism is immoral. And if we're seen as defenders of quote, Wall Street, end quote, we've got a problem." 2. Don't say that the government 'taxes the rich.' Instead, tell them that the government 'takes from the rich.' "If you talk about raising taxes on the rich," the public responds favorably, Luntz cautioned. But "if you talk about government taking the money from hardworking Americans, the public says no. Taxing, the public will say yes." 3. Republicans should forget about winning the battle over the 'middle class.' Call them 'hardworking taxpayers.' "They cannot win if the fight is on hardworking taxpayers. We can say we defend the 'middle class' and the public will say, I'm not sure about that. But defending 'hardworking taxpayers' and Republicans have the advantage." 4. Don't talk about 'jobs.' Talk about 'careers.' "Everyone in this room talks about 'jobs,'" Luntz said. "Watch this." He then asked everyone to raise their hand if they want a "job." Few hands went up. Then he asked who wants a "career." Almost every hand was raised. "So why are we talking about jobs?" 5. Don't say 'government spending.' Call it 'waste.' "It's not about 'government spending.' It's about 'waste.' That's what makes people angry."

0

steamboatsconscience 3 years, 5 months ago

  1. Don't ever say you're willing to 'compromise.' "If you talk about 'compromise,' they'll say you're selling out. Your side doesn't want you to 'compromise.' What you use in that to replace it with is 'cooperation.' It means the same thing. But cooperation means you stick to your principles but still get the job done. Compromise says that you're selling out those principles."
  2. The three most important words you can say to an Occupier: 'I get it.' "First off, here are three words for you all: 'I get it.' . . . 'I get that you're angry. I get that you've seen inequality. I get that you want to fix the system." Then, he instructed, offer Republican solutions to the problem.
  3. Out: 'Entrepreneur.' In: 'Job creator.' Use the phrases "small business owners" and "job creators" instead of "entrepreneurs" and "innovators."
  4. Don't ever ask anyone to 'sacrifice.' "There isn't an American today in November of 2011 who doesn't think they've already sacrificed. If you tell them you want them to 'sacrifice,' they're going to be be pretty angry at you. You talk about how 'we're all in this together.' We either succeed together or we fail together."
  5. Always blame Washington. Tell them, "You shouldn't be occupying Wall Street, you should be occupying Washington. You should occupy the White House because it's the policies over the past few years that have created this problem." Don't say 'bonus!' Luntz advised that if they give their employees an income boost during the holiday season, they should never refer to it as a "bonus." "If you give out a bonus at a time of financial hardship, you're going to make people angry. It's 'pay for performance.'"

Typical repubs, "lets just baffle them with BS". Not this time.....

I like this game Steamboatconscience. Lets play some more!

"And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brothers eye, but considereth not the beam that is in thine own eye... Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brothers eye."

Only fools think there are meaningful differences between Democrats and Republicans.
