Michelle LaMay: Too late to ban

On behalf of all those who are registered “patients” and acquire medical marijuana in Steamboat Springs and Routt County, the November election issue that would ban legal businesses should be stopped from being certified by the County Clerk by a petition to the County Court because the Colorado statute says:

“12-43.3-103. Applicability.(2) (a) Prior to July 1, 2011, a county, city and county, or municipality may adopt and enforce a resolution or ordinance licensing, regulating, or prohibiting the cultivation or sale of medical marijuana.”

It’s too late to ban medical marijuana anywhere in Colorado. The TeaPOT Party is prepared to help any resident legal patient of Routt preserve their access to medicine. It’s not like you can order it on the Internet and UPS will deliver.

Persons with a true medical need can still get medical marijuana if the centers close.

I had 2 relatives get their pot in states where no marijuana centers exist. One had cancer and the other had Wilsons disease.

Ms.? Cooke-

You must be one cold-hearted person. You would drive a patient-in-need to the black market instead of allowing him to procure his meds in a safe and controlled environment? How's this work for you: Next time someone you care about falls ill and the physician writes a prescription, go ahead and tear it up. Then, since we know that time and quality of product are not of the essence, ask your loved one to go on out and find that medicine somewhere other than a pharmacy. Or, if the patient prefers, she can produce it herself.

If you have cancer or a horrible disease such as Wilsons disease you can get your pot legally. The pot is grown by the government.

Persons who have a true disease do not got to the black market to buy. I have a relative that smokes it LEGALLY every day in N.C.

If the marijuanna centers close, persons with a true need will not be effected.

You may not have been aware of the facts,as many aren't which is ok. But the bashing that you and others do discredit your position. Your statement " you must be a cold hearted person " is such an example. I guess it is easy to do if you hide and remain anonymous. Can we present our positions and be civil ?

According to several websites North Carolina does not yet recognize medical marijuana and thus it is not possible to legally smoke marijuana there.

And it appears there is actually a federal program that has distributed medical marijuana to a handful of patients that have gone to federal court and sued (and won) the FDA for blocking access to mmj needed for their medical condition.

http://www.wbtv.com/story/15565124/4-americans-get-pot-from-us-government

And that program is not accepting new applications.

So, yes, for the medical marijuana patients that have successfully sued the FDA to get access for mmj then closing the dispensaries will have no impact. For everyone else there will be a huge impact.

CRC, Seriously? You know enough to know about that program, but then describe it in such a misleading way?

I am not aware of how my realtive smokes legally but he does and has done so for years. There are others I know of who smoke it legally as well.

This goes back to the fact that if you have a true need you do not need a marijuana center.

Chauncey-

You sir, must be baiting me. You reasoning is specious and your understanding of the five-person federal medical marijuana program is nil.

This quote:

"I had 2 relatives get their pot in states where no marijuana centers exist. One had cancer and the other had Wilsons disease."

is one which you post in most of these threads. It is anecdotal, at best and has zero bearing on our local debate. To imply that any patient with a physician recommendation for cannabis should have to seek their medicine someplace other than a safe, controlled environment because of your own personal beliefs about cannabis is indeed cold-hearted.

I, sir, do not bash on this forum. I do not name-call. I am not anonymous. And, I can assure you, no one has a better grasp of the facts in regards to medical marijuana. You have every right to express your opinion. Do not, however, confuse that opinion with truth.

Hello Kevin (routter) you are an owner of a marijuana center. I applude you for coming out of hiding ( why not list this on all your posts ?).

I am simply a voter with no money to make or lose on this issue. My relatives get marijuana legally where centers do not exist for Wilsons and cancer. The options exist when/if the centers close.

Sorry if I struck a nerve.

Guess eventually it won't matter what people in Routt County think, the central government may soon be making all our decisions for us. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_MEDICAL_MARIJUANA?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2011-10-06-15-51-35 Raise your hands now, which of you folks that support MMJ voted for this administration?

Well, California never changed their laws since Raich vs Gonzales so California mmj growers and dispensaries have no legal reason to think they could be safe. The only thing going for them is the public (and at least one federal judge) have not been sympathetic to federal prosecutors. (The federal judge after ruling that Oakland's mmj grower couldn't say why he was growing and so the guy was convicted without the jury knowing the full story then sentenced the guy to 1 day in jail, time already served. And when members of the jury learned he was Oakland's mmj grower, not in business for himself then held a press conference saying they would have never convicted him if that was known to them and then basically went on to call the federal prosecutors irresponsible liars ) And it caused a number of additional cities to pass mmj sanctuary laws declaring that local police are not to cooperate with federal investigations of marijuana.

It looks like a truly self-defeating move. I have no idea of the purpose of this.

Note that Colorado changed its laws in response to Raich vs Gonzales and there are mmj advocates that want the feds to bust a Colorado dispensary to see if Colorado has successfully took Colorado mmj out of federal interstate jurisdiction.

What makes me ill, is the simple fact that those that need it will again be "criminals" and overlooked. Jobs again, will be gone. Revenue, again will be lost. And some 'do-goody" will be allowed to presume themselves saviors of the young. And worst of all? Those who may chose mmj over legal "meds" will be be getting a far less controlled substance to aid them, at a higher cost. And I guarantee that not one of them will be able to a call to an "800" number to join a majority of people who want legal action taken because of "side effects gone bad". Instead they wiill be sitting in jail/prison on the naysayers $'s. GOOD JOB!!!!! Reefer madness has stricken those that dont use. In a VERY negative way. Wow. Talk about a turn of events.
