Steamboat briefs: Mainstreet Steamboat is in need of Santa Clauses

Mainstreet Steamboat Springs is looking for residents interested in being Santa Claus for several events between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Santas must be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday afternoons. There also will be an appearance from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday for the Light Up the Night event on the Routt County Courthouse lawn. Santas also must be good with children. Having your own Santa suit is preferable but not necessary. Monetary compensation is provided. Sponsors for Santa House during annual event needed

Mainstreet Steamboat Springs is looking for sponsors for the Santa House to be displayed on the Routt County Courthouse lawn beginning with the Light Up the Night community tree lighting event Friday. Salvation Army committee seeks volunteer bell ringers

The local Salvation Army Extension Committee is looking for volunteer bell ringers for one-hour shifts starting the day after Thanksgiving and continuing through Christmas Eve. Ninety percent of the money collected through the local kettle drive stays in Routt County. The other 10 percent helps people statewide. To volunteer, call Judi Williams at 970-819-5839. Steamboat Winter Sports Club fundraiser is ongoing

Guess how many boots are in a gondola car as part of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Boots in the ’Boat fundraiser. The gondola car will be in Gondola Square from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today to Sunday.

At 2 p.m. Sunday, the gondola car will be opened and the boots will be counted.

The cost is $5 for one guess or $25 for six guesses. The money will go to the Winter Sports Club and help with the general operations and day-to-day expenses of the club.

The top three prizes are a day of skiing for two with Steamboat Powdercats, a parking spot for the season in the Winter Sports Club parking lot at the Christie base and an iPad 2. The winner will get his or her choice of one of the prizes first.

Horizons group is looking for volunteers to be mentors

Horizons Specialized Services is seeking volunteers to serve as mentors to individuals with developmental disabilities in Moffat and Routt counties. Volunteers spend at least three hours a month with Horizons clients. Call volunteer coordinator Rebecca Hanson at 970-879-4466, ext. 111.
