South Routt School District to swear in board members Thursday
Wednesday, November 16, 2011
The South Routt School District will swear in its new and returning board members Thursday night and consider appointing officers.
The board will swear in new member Jules Palyo (District 4) along with returning members Tim Corrigan (District 6) and Brett Mason (District 7). The board also will consider appointing and swearing in Stagecoach resident Jamie Hoff to the District 3 seat vacated by Willie Smith, who in August moved out of the school district.
Hoff, the sole applicant for the open seat, said Wednesday his motivation to serve was simple.
“The main reason I applied is I have a kindergartener and second-grader in the school district, and I value public education pretty highly,” he said. “I’d like the opportunity to be heard as a parent.”
Hoff owns a Snap-on tool distribution franchise and has lived in the South Routt School District for seven years. He also serves on a community advisory board for Colorado Northwestern Community College’s automotive and diesel technology program.
Superintendent Scott Mader said Hoff will be interviewed by the board before its meeting Thursday night.
“Should the board approve him, I think he’ll be a great board member,” Mader said. “He’s a well-respected member of the community, and you always want to have someone on the board who has a sincere interest in serving the school district.”
Thursday’s meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the district’s administrative offices behind Soroco High School.
