Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Ski Touring Center’s Nordic trails based at Rollingstone Ranch Golf Course are open for the season with 4 kilometers (about 2 1/4 miles) of terrain.
Available trails include the teaching area and the hilly out-and-back route on the Fish Creek Trail all the way to the tunnel beneath Steamboat Boulevard. For the time being, daily trail passes are a discounted $5. The trail has been groomed for both skate and classic style skiing.
“We had about 75 people out here (Tuesday) afternoon, and skiing was pretty good,” Birgitta Lindgren said. “There are some weeds showing through. We’ll begin teaching lessons on Saturday, and we’re looking forward to having the University of Wyoming (cross-country ski team) here for a training camp over Thanksgiving.”
Lindgren, who extends her guide and outfitter permit for Rabbit Ears Pass to the groomed skiing on Bruce’s Trail, said Dave Miller and the Steamboat Nordic Council will continue to make that cross-country skiing option available until there is sufficient natural snow to allow the Touring Center to expand its available terrain.
The next snow event forecasted to blow through Steamboat could arrive by Friday.
