— Four swimmers from Steamboat Springs competed in the ACES swim meet in Denver last weekend.

Frank Ruppel, Samantha Terranova, Brenden Carta and Luci Franklin, swimming under the direction of Coach Zach Ruppel, all swam some of their best times. Frank Ruppel and Terranova are participating in a year-round swim program sponsored by Old Town Hot Springs, with the goal to qualify for the short-course state meet in March. Frank achieved two state-qualifying times at last weekend’s meet, while Samantha is coming off a summer in which she set state records in the mile and the 200-meter freestyle. Brenden and Luci are enrolled in a high school prep program at the Hot Springs that will have them in top condition for their season with Moffat County High School.

Ruppel finished seventh in the 500-yard freestyle and 200 free, fourth in the 100 fly and 100 back and second in the 200 back.

Terranova was fourth in the 400 IM, sixth in the 200 back, third in the 1,000 free, fifth in the 100 free, seventh in the 100 back and second in the 200 free.

Carta was eighth in the 200 breast, while Franklin was fifth in the 50 back and 50 butterfly, eighth in the 50 free and ninth in the 100 back.

The team will next compete at the Mid Season Short Course Finale from Dec. 9-11 in Fort Collins.
