Steamboat briefs: Gingerbread house tour registration closes Dec. 1
Wednesday, November 9, 2011
Mainstreet Steamboat Springs once again is sponsoring a gingerbread house tour for the Merry MainStreet event Dec. 10. There is no registration fee to participate, but interested participants must register their intent no later than Dec. 1 so that the houses can be assigned to a display location in one of the host stores. Houses will be delivered to the hosting store by Dec. 5, giving the public time to view the houses before Merry MainStreet. Houses must entirely be made of gingerbread and edible decorations. Prizes will be awarded in professional and amateur categories. For more information and to register, contact Tracy at 970-846-1800 or info@mainstreetsteamboat.com.
National Animal Shelter Appreciation is this week
This week is National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, and local veterinary offices are encouraging residents to consider ways they can help the Steamboat Springs Animal Shelter. Interested residents can donate needed supplies or volunteer their time to help out at the shelter. Residents also are asked to remember to report animal cruelty and neglect, spread the word about the importance of responsible pet ownership and consider choosing their next pet through adoption from an animal shelter.
Volunteers sought to help children with homework
Integrated Community is in need of volunteers to help children with their homework at the Boys & Girls Club of Steamboat Springs. Spanish speakers are preferred, and a passion for children is a must. Volunteer shifts are from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the club. Call Tatiana at 970-871-4599 for more information.
