Steamboat Springs If the past two years are any indication, Friday’s Steamboat Pilot & Today Holiday Dessert Bake-Off will be a culinary treat for anyone with a sweet tooth.
The community is invited to take part in the bake-off’s coffee and dessert tasting open house from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Steamboat Moxie Home Consignments and Design, across Shield Drive from the Pilot & Today’s office building. During the open house, community members can sample the dozens of desserts prepared by fellow residents as well as mingle with Pilot & Today General Manager Scott Stanford, Editor Brent Boyer and other staff members as well as with friends, neighbors and co-workers. The open house and dessert tasting is free and open to everyone.
This is the third year for the Holiday Dessert Bake-Off, which is co-sponsored by Ace at the Curve and Moxie. The first two years saw dozens of entries in the contest’s four categories: pies, cakes, cookies and miscellaneous desserts. A panel of community judges will determine category winners Friday before the open house, and members of the public who attend the tasting open house can cast their ballots for the one dessert that will be named Community Choice.
The best entries and their creators will be photographed and featured in the upcoming edition of At Home in Steamboat Springs magazine.
Folks who want to enter their own desserts must drop them off at Moxie from 7 to 10 a.m. Friday. All entries must include a complete recipe, and all contestants and their desserts will be photographed at check-in. Contestants can enter only one dessert per category. Category winners as well as Best Presentation and Community Choice award winners will be given $100 gift certificates to Ace and $50 gift certificates to Moxie.
