A 19-year-old Steamboat man was arrested early Sunday morning on suspicion of breaking into a car in the 800 block of Pine Street and taking several items.
According to an affidavit filed with Routt County Court, Steamboat Springs Police Department officers responded to the home at about 1 a.m. after a woman reported a man was trying to get into her house. An officer contacted Zachary Nabil Asterbadi, who was seen standing at the front door, knocking and turning the door handle, the affidavit states. Asterbadi initially told police he was looking for friends.
The woman at the house told police several items that had been in her car were in the yard.
The affidavit states Asterbadi was asked by officers to empty his pockets. Police said he had seven iPods, two sets of headphones, women’s makeup, a marijuana pipe, a small amount of marijuana, women’s jewelry and hair accessories. The woman identified her keys and other property from her car near a backpack that Asterbadi said belonged to him, the affidavit states.
Asterbadi was arrested on suspicion of felony first-degree trespass. He also was arrested on suspicion on misdemeanor theft, minor in possession, possession of paraphernalia and criminal possession of an identity document.
He posted $5,000 bond and is due in court at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 29.
