Hayden Valley Elementary School awards were presented Thursday. Several students received awards for physical education, acting in the school play, participating in the Virtue Program, student council and others. A special congratulations to Brisha Archuleta and Taylen Zabel for receiving the President’s Silver Award for academics and to Richard Hallenbeck, who received the President’s Gold Award for academics.
Totally Kids is gearing up for summer. Summer activities include swimming at the Craig and Steamboat Springs pools, picnics, bowling, Strings Music Festival events, movies, pottery at the Potter’s Wheel, kayaking, the Alpine slide, hiking, fishing and so much more. Body Sculpting will be offered through the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association’s Aging Well program and Colorado Northwestern Community College on Mondays and Wednesdays starting June 13.
Plein Air Painting will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays starting June 8 at the Haven Community Center and Friday evenings starting June 10 at Hayden Public Library.
A “Minerals and How They Shaped Colorado” class is at 10 a.m. June 28 at the Hayden Heritage Center. The class will address gold, silver and coal on the first meeting and then will head on the road July 1 to Silver Plume and Georgetown. Participants will ride the narrow gauge train, take a tour of one of the local mines and Georgetown. The deadline for registration is June 27. Huck Finn Day is right around the corner, with fishing from 10 a.m. to noon June 11. There will be a contest for children who want to dress up like Huck Finn or Becky Thatcher. Lots of things are happening June 18. Routt County CattleWomen, with Ace at the Curve and Steamboat Smokehouse, will hold their annual Beef Cook-off. The griller who cooks the best hamburger takes home the grand prize. There also will be a barbecue, petting zoo, a contest to guess the weight of a calf and a pie-tasting contest. The best pie bakers are encouraged to bring their pies to Ace to be judged by 8 a.m. All proceeds will benefit the CattleWomen’s scholarship fund.
