Steamboat Springs I would like to extend a huge thank you to the Steamboat Ski Area, the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club and Deb Armstrong for allowing our kids to have the opportunity to train for Alpine racing on Bashor this spring. We are Ski Town USA, and we are making incredible strides in the Alpine division of the Winter Sports Club to make this statement become a greater reality.
The Alpine division of the Winter Sports Club has provided exceptional coaching, communication, enthusiasm, pride in the sport, commitment for future growth and skill training over the past year. My hope is that the Winter Sports Club’s board of directors, the Steamboat Ski Area and our community continue to work together to provide support and opportunities for growth that matches the coaching drive and enthusiasm. This has proven to be true for the Nordic division on the heels of our Olympic success. It is of the utmost importance to build champions in the Alpine division as well.
My understanding is that more than half of the 880 athletes in Winter Sports Club participate in the Alpine division. The majority of fundraising in the past decade has focused primarily on a small percentage of athletes in the Nordic Combined or Special Jumping disciplines. Let’s continue to move in a direction to make a conscious effort for growth and momentum of the Alpine division, to meet the hopes and dreams of our children. The goal would be to provide a program that supports their efforts for collegiate scholarships or being members of the U.S. Ski Team and World Cup athletes.
We live in Ski Town USA. Mount Werner and Howelson Hill are amazing amenities in our backyard. Let’s continue to find ways to capitalize on the large number of children and families that are willing work hard and strive for success in Alpine ski racing.
