2011 Sailors girls JV lacrosse schedule
Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs High School girls junior varsity lacrosse team ended its season Friday with a 9-1 loss at Aspen. That put the Steamboat Sailors at 4-4 on the season, coach Betsy Frick said in an email.
Frick called Aspen’s JV squad “the fittest and fastest girls lacrosse team the Steamboat Springs girls JV lacrosse team played this season.” The Skiers scored their first goal in 15 seconds, she said.
Steamboat freshman Kayla Voeltzel scored off an assist from sophomore Nikki Fry to tie the game at 1-1. The Sailors were unable to score again despite having six shots on goal in each half, Frick said. Steamboat trailed, 6-1, at the half.
Steamboat goalie Alyssa McMahan had 12 saves, and Aspen goalie Blake Harvey had seven.
“The girls really stepped it up a notch to try to keep up with a very fast and fit Aspen team,” Frick said. “I was pleased that they were able to keep the score as close as they did. It was a good end to the season and gave the girls a taste of the speed of girls lacrosse games that is typical of more experienced teams.”
