End-of-season lodging is a bit sluggish, forecast shows
A lodging forecast released Wednesday indicates a somewhat slow end to the ski season in Steamboat Springs. About 6,000 visitors are expected in Steamboat this weekend, filling about 43 percent of local lodging capacity, according to the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association’s weekly lodging barometer. Those numbers don’t account for last-minute travelers, but do represent a potential decrease from the 7,600 visitors in Steamboat, filling 55 percent of capacity, on the corresponding weekend in 2010.
It’s worth noting that last year, Easter fell on April 4. This year, Easter is April 24.
Local skiers and snowboarders could have Mount Werner relatively to themselves on Steamboat Ski Area’s closing weekend. About 2,500 visitors, or 18 percent of capacity, are expected the weekend of April 10. That’s 100 visitors less than the number forecast for the corresponding weekend last year.
