Board of Realtors offers scholarships to students

The Steamboat Springs Board of Realtors is awarding scholarships to Routt County high school students who want to continue their education. Women’s conference group seeks donations, volunteers

Girls to Women, an annual one-day conference for eighth-grade girls in Northwest Colorado, is seeking donations and volunteers for the 2011 conference. The event is April 12 at The Steamboat Grand.

Guys Read group meets on 2nd Thursday each month

The Bud Werner Library’s “Guys Read” book club for boys ages 8 to 12 and their dads or older male figure will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month through April in the Library’s Teen Project Room. Each meeting will be led by a local guy celebrity. Register and pick up books at the Kids’ Desk or call 970-879-0240, ext. 313. Space is limited to 10 pairs per meeting.

Bust of Steamboat seeks new committee members

The 10th annual Bust of Steamboat committee is seeking members. The Yampa Valley Breast Cancer Awareness committee meets from noon to 1 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at The Egg & I. During the monthly meetings, the group plans its annual October fundraiser and discusses distribution of funds. The money raised helps local uninsured and underinsured women in Routt and Moffat counties pay for annual exams, mammograms and breast cancer treatment costs.

Buddhist Center to offer new Joy of Living retreat

The Buddhist Center of Steamboat Springs will offer a retreat called the Joy of Living Level 1, Calming the Mind, from Friday to Sunday at the center. The retreat is suitable for people of all faiths, beginning and experienced meditators, who are interested in developing a peaceful mind and joyful heart.

In this first program in the Joy of Living series of video presentations, Tibetan meditation master and best-selling author Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche teaches how awareness meditation allows practitioners to use any situation or experience as a gateway to inner peace.

Council on Aging seeks all Routt County centenarians

In May 2011, the Colorado Commission on Aging is considering having its annual Centenarian Celebration in Steamboat, according to the Routt County Council on Aging. The Centenarian Project is an activity of the Commission on Aging to celebrate the lives of centenarians across the state, recognize their achievement and to focus the attention of Coloradans on the political and social issues of aging. The project awards centenarian certificates prepared by the commission and signed by the governor to those ages 100 or older. Those who know of someone in Routt County who will be turning 100 this year or already has reached that milestone are asked to contact Laura Schmidt at the Routt County Council on Aging at director@rccoaging.org or 970-879-0633.
