Steamboat Winter Sports Club halfpipe skiers miss out

Steamboat Springs — Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club halfpipe skiers Penn Lukens, Conor Garrecht-Connelly and Lennon Vaughan struggled a bit Saturday at the 2011 U.S. Freestyle Championships in Stratton, Vt.
None of the Steamboat skiers qualified for the finals, with Vaughan just missing the podium round. He finished 13th; the top 12 qualifiers made the finals. Garrecht-Connelly was 16th, and Lukens was 21st.
The U.S. Freestyle Championships wrap up today with a dual moguls event. Multiple Steamboat athletes are expected to compete, including defending champion Jeremy Cota.
