Shane Anderson, who is based out of Steamboat Springs in winter, races to the dual slalom title Friday at the U.S. Telemark National Championships in Steamboat Springs.

Steamboat Springs — Local Telemark racers Shane Anderson and Madi McKinstry collected more titles in a pair of dual slalom races Friday at the U.S. Telemark National Championships in Steamboat Springs.

Racers were timed on the slalom course at Howelsen Hill in the morning. Those times determined the winners as well as the seeding position for a dual slalom race in the afternoon.

McKinstry posted the fastest times in both slalom runs, finishing with a combined time of 46.08 seconds. Zoe Taylor was second at 46.77, and Erika Walters came in third with a time of 49.32.

McKinstry also topped Taylor to win the head to head dual slalom race in the afternoon. Walters was third in the race.

“These are my first national titles,” said McKinstry, who also won the sprint classic at Howelsen on Thursday. “It was a tight race, but I just kept telling myself that I wanted it more.”

Shane Anderson, who lives in Steamboat during the winter, set the pace in the morning with a time of 41.34. He was followed by Charlie Dresen in second at 41.40 and Cory Snyder in third with a time of 42.05.

In the dual slalom, Anderson topped Joel Nylander for the win. Peter McMann was third.

The national championships continue at 9:15 a.m. today with the Classic race on Sitz/See Me at Steamboat Ski Area.
