— The Hayden High School girls basketball team fought all the way to the Class 2A state tournament, but the road didn’t end there for the Tigers. Accolades are rolling in for the strong campaign the team put together, and several athletes haven’t hung up the basketball sneakers quite yet.

Five Hayden players earned all-Western Slope League honors, and two — seniors Kyra Rolando and Delanie VeDepo — were selected to play in postseason all-star games.

Rolando and VeDepo will participate this weekend in the Colorado Coaches of Girl’s Sports All-State Basketball Games at Arvada West High School.

The girls will play against another team of Class 2A players. Tigers’ coach Eric Hamilton will coach the squad.

“This is a really big honor for those girls,” Hamilton said. “It’s a great opportunity for me, too. I get to coach Kyra and Delanie one last time. I’m pretty excited about that.”

Rolando led the team in steals and assists while VeDepo led in 3-point shooting and was right behind Rolando in steals and assists.

Rolando also was selected to play in the Colorado High School Coaches Association All Star game in June.

The girls also were named first-team all-Western Slope League players, along with juniors Brette Frentress and Erin Koehler. Junior Aubree Haskins was named to the Western Slope honorable mention list.

Letlow tops in state

The Denver Post named Hayden senior Treyben Letlow to the all-state wrestling squad. Letlow was tabbed as the top 215-pounder in the state after finishing his season 33-0 and winning his second consecutive state championship. He was also named the Wrestler of the Year for Class 2A.
