— The inaugural North Routt Preschool fundraiser this weekend is about more than just raising money for the school that serves children 6 weeks to 12 years old, Director Hillary Ackerman said.

Ackerman said she hopes families and community members who attend the cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and sledding event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Vista Verde Ranch near Clark have a good time.

“We think it’s a really creative, new fundraiser that will be fun for families and community members, as well,” she said. “We love a good get-together here in North Routt. If it can benefit the schools, we like it even more.”

Ackerman said money raised will support the preschool’s general operating fund while supporting existing programs.

Skiing and snowshoeing will be available all day. A facilities tour will be at 11:30 a.m. for those who pay for a gourmet lunch at 12:30 p.m. Sledding and tubing will be from 2 to 4 p.m.

The cost is $40 for adults for lunch and to participate in activities, or $20 for activities only. It’s $25 for children for lunch and activities, or $15 just for activities. Ski and snowshoe equipment will be available to rent for $10 per person. Tubes and sleds will be provided for free.

The number of lunches available will be limited. To RSVP, call Morgan at 303-589-2172.

Ackerman said the preschool at 50710 Routt County Road 129 serves 24 children with a variety of programs. For example, she said, an after-school homework program serves students from the North Routt Community Charter School.

She said the fundraiser is important in tough economic times to support the preschool, a nonprofit school that is funded through tuition, donations and grants. She said people donated less than usual at two fundraisers in fall.

“Between the preschool and the charter school, we do a lot of fundraisers,” she said. “We’re trying to find an event that attracted people more than the North Routt community. We’re trying to reach out farther and bring in a wider base of donators.”
