— The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club J3 Alpine team came away from the J3 Junior Championships in Aspen with a pair of champions last week.

Chandler Sedberry won the super G competition, and Serina Kidd won the slalom. The wins mean Sedberry and Kidd will ski for the U.S. team at the 2011 Whistler Cup during the first week of April.

“I was super excited,” Winter Sports Club coach Rob Worrell said. “It wasn’t easy on those girls. They worked hard.”

Kidd also finished second in the giant slalom, with Ellese Lupori 11th. Sky Kelsey was sixth in the men’s giant slalom, and Nate Bowman was 12th in the men’s slalom.

Mackenzie Gansmann was 12th in the women’s slalom.

“Once again, it wasn’t a surprise,” Worrell said. “Understand in a championship setting, with a lot of pressure, you never know what is going to happen.”
