Steamboat Briefs: Booster Club selling bulbs, flowers for school teams

Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs Booster Club is selling flower bulbs and flowers during the next month to help raise money for high school sports teams and clubs. The flowers can be ordered at www.flowerpowerfundraising.com/find-organization by searching for Steamboat Springs Booster Club. The online sale started Monday.

Library to start chess club for children ages 5 to 10
Bud Werner Memorial Library introduces chess club for children ages 5 to 10, to be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. every other Tuesday afternoon in the Story-time Room. The free program starts March 29, and no sign-up is necessary. Bring a chess set if possible; there will be two sets available at the library. A parent volunteer will be present at each meeting. VA issues warning about potential new phone scam
The Department of Veterans Affairs is warning veterans not to disclose personal information over the phone to callers claiming to update, confirm or verify VA-related information, according to a news release. According to the VA, the fraudulent callers are asking for credit card numbers, bank routing numbers and other personal and financial information. A recent call reported included the caller claiming to be a VA employee and stating that the veteran’s medical card has expired.
VA warns veterans to be wary of calls coming from 888-555-1234. Veterans with questions should call the VA at 877-222-8387.
Oak Creek seeks gear for town’s cross-country trails
Oak Creek is seeking donations of good used cross-country ski equipment and snowshoes for the town’s new cross-country ski project. For donation drop-off or more information, call Nikki Knoebel at 970-846-2083.
