Steamboat Springs Now at least the Steamboat Springs High School boys lacrosse team knows where it stands.
After a season-opening 19-2 laugher against Telluride on Friday, Steamboat saw real competition for the first time Saturday, falling, 7-3, to Mountain Vista.
Steamboat (1-1 overall, 1-0 in the Mountain Conference) struggled to match Mountain Vista’s first-half intensity and found itself in a hole.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 first-quarter lead and then a 4-1 halftime lead. They led by as much as 7-1 at one point.
Steamboat got a pair of goals from Wilber Ranieri and one from Lance Ostrom.
“I thought our effort in the second half was very good,” Steamboat coach Bob Hiester said. “I didn’t think we were ready for their intensity and athletic level in the first half. But we did what we wanted to do. We got a chance to play a good, high-quality team. It was a good learning experience. The tape for this will be good for us.”
Steamboat next plays at 4 p.m. Tuesday at home against Eagle Valley.

Hey Luke, How about including at least basic info like scores for the JV and Freshman lacrosse Teams? They are doing great too!
