Steamboat Briefs: Volunteer reserves offer free emergency training

Northwest Colorado Volunteer Reserves Medical Reserve Corps will host a free training and presentation from 5:30 to 7 p.m. March 24 at Library Hall in Bud Werner Memorial Library. Join them to hear stories about responding to real emergencies including wildfires, be trained to respond to emergencies and learn more about volunteering. Cabaret auditions at Depot Art Center on March 19, 20

Community members interested in performing in the Arts Council’s annual Cabaret, “Short and Sweet,” are invited to audition from 1 to 4 p.m. March 19 or from 3 to 6 p.m. March 20 at the Depot Art Center. Previous theater experience is not necessary. The performances will be May 12, 13 and 14 at the Strings Music Pavilion. Call the Steamboat Springs Arts Council at 970-879-9008 for details.

New Spanish story-time begins Monday at library

Bud Werner Memorial Library invites children ages 3 to 5 years old, with a parent or caregiver, to the new Spanish story-time program from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Mondays in the story-time room. “Cuentos y Canciones” (Stories and Songs) will be led by Spanish-speaking volunteers in the community and will benefit native Spanish and native English-speaking children. The free program starts Monday, March 14 and no sign-up is necessary. Daffodil proceeds will go to help terminally ill patients

Daffodils will be on sale for $5 a bunch Tuesday, March 15 at City Market, Safeway and the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association offices in Steamboat and Craig. They will also be available at Ace at the Curve, Alpine Floral, the Clark Store and the Hayden Mercantile. Proceeds go to help provide hospice care for terminally ill patients in the Yampa Valley. Golf classic to benefit Holy Name church expansion

The Cabin Fever Golf Classic benefiting the Holy Name Catholic Church expansion fund is March 19 at Haymaker Golf Course. Registration, lunch and activities start at 11 a.m., with a shotgun start at noon. Cost is $40 for individuals and includes green fees, lunch and a T-shirt. Teams of two are $70. Outpatient lactation clinic to be held on Wednesdays

Yampa Valley Medical Center’s Family Birth Place staff will offer a new outpatient lactation clinic from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesdays. Lactation visits are free by appointment in the Integrated Health clinic on YVMC’s campus.

The Outpatient Lactation Clinic offers support and education for women to achieve their breast-feeding goals, regardless of where they delivered their babies. Each visit will include weighing the baby, observation and evaluation of a feeding, assessment of maternal and infant anatomy, and suggestions for enhancement. An average consultation lasts about one hour. Call 970-875-2662 to schedule a consultation.
