— South Routt County librarians are encouraging residents to stop by the libraries in Yampa and Oak Creek to sign up for membership or to update their membership information. Yampatika seeks summer high school, college interns

Yampatika is accepting applications for three summer internships for high school and college students until March 18.

The nonprofit group, which promotes environmental stewardship through youth and adult education, received a grant from the Colorado Kids Outdoors Initiative to pay two full-time interns and one part-time intern, who will help with Yampatika’s summer programs.

Candidates should have an interest in environmental education, the ability to walk up to two miles on varied terrain, a valid driver’s license and CPR accreditation. Candidates also should be able to lift 40 pounds and be proficient in Microsoft Word.

The full-time interns, who will be paid $400 a week, will develop weekly lesson plans, assist naturalists and lead programs. The part-time intern, who will be paid $200 a week, will develop and deliver two weekly three-hour environmental programs for the Boys & Girls Club of Steamboat Springs and help with other programs.

3rd Cody’s Challenge race is set for April 2 at ski area

The third annual Cody’s Challenge race is April 2 at Steamboat Ski Area. Gondola loading is from 7:45 to 8 a.m.; the race starts at 8:30 a.m. The entry fee is $50 for the race only and $90 for the race and a day pass on the mountain. Register at http://codyschallenge.tcsjf.org or register starting at 7 a.m. race day at Bear River Bar & Grill. A celebration is at 6 p.m. at Bear River; the cost is $20. Profits provide scholarships to help ski patrollers further their medical education.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other leading medical groups recommend meningococcal vaccine for youths ages 11 to 18 years, College freshmen living in dormitories, and children 2 through 10 years of age who are at increased risk or if elected by their health-care providers and parents. Integrated Community is seeking bilingual volunteers to assist the organization with its resource and referral program on Mondays and Wednesdays.
