Wednesday, June 29, 2011
Steamboat Springs Effective this past weekend, the Hahn’s Peak Lake Campground has reopened, according to a release from the U.S. Forest Service. The destination has been undergoing construction, hazard tree removal and renovations since 2008. The area consists of 23 single-unit campsites and three double sites for larger groups.
Vault toilets, trash services and potable water are available. Camping limit is 14 days. The lake provides fishing and boating for nonmotorized or electric motor boats. Hiking, mountain biking and ATV use is permitted on most of the area trails. The Prospector/Nipple Peak Loop is nearby.
Camping fees are $10 per night for a single unit and $20 per night for a double unit space. Campsites can be reserved by calling 877-444-6777 or going to http://www.recreation.gov.
The three-year project initially included hazard tree removal, followed by facilities renovations and now the Forest Service is finishing the day-use area. The service is in the second of three years of tree planting in the campground. The day-use area is scheduled to be completed next year and will include a picnic area and accessible fishing opportunities, as well as a shoreline trail.
