— Hayden Public Library is pleased to announce 9-year-old Garrett Salazar as the summer reading program’s third Reader of the Week. His parents are Toby Salazar and Dave and Lynn Simmons. He has three siblings, Levi, 20, Lynette, 18, and Shaelyn, 13. Garrett was born in Steamboat Springs and has lived in the Hayden area since. He has two dogs, Magnum and Wrangler.

Garrett wants to be a professional bull rider when he grows up. His favorite color is black, and his favorite food is barbecued chicken. He likes ranching and said, “Hard work is fun.” His favorite sports to watch are football and wrestling, and he likes playing tackle football. In his free time, Garrett likes to hang out with his friend Blake Puckett. His favorite movie is the same as his favorite book, “Where the Red Fern Grows” by Wilson Rawls. He will be in fourth grade this fall. His favorite subjects in school are science and math. This summer he and his family plan to go to Utah to visit family and friends.

When asked if he had any advice for other kids about reading, he said, “reading is good for people, and you need to read to be smarter.” Garrett also said that when he learned he was the Reader of the Week, he felt good. Congratulations, Garrett!
