Heart attack suspected cause of death for Utah biker in Steamboat

— Routt County Coroner Rob Ryg said that the cause of death for David Draper, the 59-year-old Utah man who was found dead Friday on Emerald Mountain, likely was a heart attack but that more tests were being conducted.

Ryg said Draper, who was visiting Steamboat Springs with family and friends from American Fork, Utah, had a heart issue that has not been determined. He said it could take another week to get final results.

Two Steamboat residents found Draper slumped over his bike on the side of a singletrack trail between the MGM trail and Blackmer Drive.

Ryg, Steamboat Springs Police Department officers and Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue emergency responders were called at 1:15 p.m., and the trail was closed temporarily.

Ryg said Draper had been dead no longer than an hour and a half before he was found.
