Power restored throughout the county after powerful Wednesday storm

— Yampa Valley Electric Association crews restored power this morning to the last remaining pockets of Routt County that were without electricity after Wednesday night’s powerful storm knocked over power poles and sent tree branches into power lines.

YVEA spokesman Jim Chappell said the outages began at about 9:10 p.m. Wednesday when a weather front accompanied by strong winds moved through the area. Affected customers included those along Routt County roads 14 and 14B, Colorado Highway 131, and folks in the Henderson Park and Blacktail areas. Chappell said most of those residents — about 524 customers — were without power for about an hour and a half.

A small number of residents who live along C.R. 14 near Sidney Peak Ranch were still without power this morning, however. Chappell said YVEA crews replaced four downed power poles in that area and restored service to the 40 affected customers by 9:30 a.m.

Other areas that experienced power outages last night include Alpine Mountain Ranch & Club, Catamount Ranch & Club and residences up Rabbit Ears Pass and along C.R. 20.
