Steamboat Springs Legion baseball team wins doubleheader, 4-3, 9-7

— The Steamboat Springs Legion Post 44 baseball team swept a doubleheader Saturday against Glenwood Springs in Craig.

Steamboat won the first game, 4-3, and took the nightcap, 9-7.

In the first game, Glenwood jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning before Steamboat started to peck away. Steamboat got a run in the bottom of the fifth when Karsten Thompson brought home Rhett Cook with a single.

In the sixth, Gavin Van Pelt’s double scored Tyler Brown to cut the lead to 3-2. Then, in the bottom of the seventh, Cutter Pasternak singled, Matt Regan walked and Ryan Jeep hit a walkoff two-run double to give Steamboat the win.

Tyler Brown got the win with his second straight complete game. Jeep was 4 for 4 on the day, while Pasternak provided three hits.

Steamboat jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second game and never looked back. Thompson had a pair of doubles and Pasternak added two hits and two RBIs. Regan went six innings to get the win.

Steamboat is tentatively scheduled to play in the Green River, Wyo., Invitational from Friday to Sunday.
