Steamboat restaurants to help family of boy who fell into creek
Monday, June 13, 2011
Steamboat Springs Steamboat Restaurant Group owner Rex Brice said he will donate 1 percent of sales from his four restaurants Tuesday through June 20 to help pay for the medical costs of Edwin Rodriguez, the 15-month-old boy who fell into Butcherknife Creek on June 4.
The restaurants — Big House Burgers and Bottle Cap Bar, Lil’ House Country Biscuits & Coffee, Mazzola's Majestic Italian Diner and Rex's American Grill & Bar — also will collect donations to assist the Rodriguez family, Brice said. He said anyone who donates at least $1 will receive a $5 gift card that can be used at any of his restaurants.
Edwin remained in serious condition Monday afternoon, said Melissa Vizcarra, a spokeswoman for The Children’s Hospital in Denver.
Steamboat Springs police have said they think Edwin wandered away from his home the morning of June 4 and fell into the downtown creek. His grandfather found him behind the Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant about 400 feet from the family’s home. A witness reportedly performed CPR, and Edwin was taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center before being airlifted to Denver.
