Steamboat briefs: Former superintendent of Steamboat lands new job

— Former Steamboat Springs School District superintendent Cyndy Simms recently landed a new job leading the San Mateo-Foster City School District in San Mateo County, Calif.

The district announced Simms’ appointment last month. Simms served as Steamboat’s superintendent from 1994 to 2003. She resigned to become superintendent of the Mercer Island (Wash.) School District.

Simms had been serving as interim superintendent for the Los Gatos (Calif.) Union School District when she was hired by San Mateo-Foster, the district said in a news release. It said Simms previously served as superintendent for the Walnut (Calif.) Valley Unified School District and the Placerville (Calif.) Union School District.

Stretch of Mount Werner Road to close for cleaning

Mount Werner Road will be closed along the stretch from U.S. Highway 40 to Routt County Road 14 between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday to Aug. 6 while Road & Bridge Department crews pressure wash and paint the Tree Haus Bridge. The will be no detour, and no traffic will be permitted to cross the bridge while the work is ongoing. For more information call 970-879-0831.

VNA offering free health guide in English, Spanish

Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association has free copies of Healthwise Handbooks available in English and Spanish. The Healthwise Handbook is a 354-page, self-care guide with information about first aid and emergencies, common health problems, living better with a chronic disease and staying healthy. The handbook is available at 940 Central Park Drive, Suite 101, in Steamboat Springs or at 745 Russell St. in Craig.
