— The Steamboat Springs American Legion baseball team will enter the district tournament this weekend in Summit County as the No. 3 seed.

Steamboat, which finished the regular season with a 15-6 overall record and was 11-5 in district play, opens at 3 p.m. Friday against sixth-seeded Summit.

The seven-team tournament is double elimination and could possibly run through Monday.

“If we can get through the first one, we should be in great shape,” manager Dave Roy said.

The top three teams from the district tournament advance to the state tournament. That tournament begins July 28 in Sterling.

“I think our chances are good,” Roy said. “Our pitching is lining up very well.”
