Steamboat Springs The Yampa River is continuing its steady drop toward normalcy.
The river was flowing at 1,660 cubic feet per second at the Fifth Street Bridge in downtown Steamboat Springs Monday morning. The average flow for July 18 is 256 cfs.
However, the drop has been significant in the past week. The Yampa was flowing at nearly 3,000 cfs on July 11.
The Elk River west of Steamboat Springs was flowing at 2,770 cfs this morning. It’s average historical flow for the date is 480 cfs.
A tubing ban remains in effect on local rivers until their flow drops below 800 cfs. Kayaks, whitewater rafts and other vessels are not part of the ban.
