Steamboat Springs Monday’s hockey game between Steamboat Springs High School and Fountain Valley was cancelled because of inclement weather that made it difficult for the visitors to get to Steamboat.
“We are coming off of a big win Saturday (against Ralston Valley), and we were ready for a big, high tempo game,” Sailors head coach Jeff Ruff said. “The guys wanted to get back out on the ice and prove that the game wasn’t a one-time thing.”
Ruff said the charter company that was scheduled to bring Fountain Valley to Steamboat Springs on Monday said poor road conditions would not allow the trip.
Ruff said the game is unlikely to be made up. The only day Fountain Valley can make up the game is Feb. 10, and Steamboat is already scheduled to play a pair of key conference games that week — Feb.11 against Chatfield and Feb. 12 against Standley Lake.
Ruff said he doesn’t want to risk fatigue or getting one of his players injured during that important run.
Steamboat’s next game is Friday on the road against Columbine.
