Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs High School hockey team lost, 5-1, on Friday to the state’s top team, Regis Jesuit.
Regis jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period thanks to goals from Rory Futz and Marshall Conrad. The Raiders went up 3-0 midway through the third on a goal from Nathan Haas and got two more in the third from Conrad and Andrew Floretto to take a 5-0 lead.
Steamboat’s Michael Samuelson broke the shutout with a late goal on an assist from Lance Ostrom.
The loss leaves Steamboat 10-3 overall and 6-2 in the Foothills Conference.
The Sailors fell to fifth in
the conference.
Things don’t get much easier for the Sailors. Steamboat plays at 6 p.m. today at home against No. 4 Ralston Valley, which last year was the state runner-up.
