Steamboat briefs: Jazz guest artist concert is Tuesday at high school

The second annual jazz guest artist concert featuring Nathaniel Wickham and the Steamboat Springs High School Jazz Band and Steamboat Swings is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the high school theater. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Tickets are available at All That Jazz, at Space Station and from band members. Proceeds support the band program’s Ski Band uniforms and instrument fund.

Local students named to the dean’s list in Wyoming

Houston Mader, of Hayden, and Margaret Smith, of Steamboat Springs, have been named to the University of Wyoming dean’s list and freshman honor roll for fall 2010 semester. Mader and Smith maintained GPAs of 3.25 or better while enrolled in at least 12 credit hours.

Steamboat Art Museum hosting annual tea, talk

The Steamboat Art Museum hosts its annual winter Seniors’ Tea and Docent Talk from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 7. All seniors in Steamboat Springs and surrounding communities are invited to tour the current exhibit, “Paintings by Jim Norton.” Norton is a highly respected Western artist and member of the Cowboy Artists Association, a prestigious honorary art group. College to offer basic EKG interpretation workshops

Colorado Mountain College’s Alpine Campus in Steamboat Springs is offering a basic EKG interpretation course that meets from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Feb. 1 and ending April 23. The course is a relaxed workshop designed to teach students basic 3 Lead interpretation skills. Students will demonstrate identification of life-threatening rhythms as well as most common arrhythmias. It’s a course particularly beneficial for pre-nursing students, nursing students, paramedic student candidates, nurses and CNAs. Call 970-870-4444 to register.
