Steamboat Springs Which is the real Steamboat Springs High School hockey team: the one that lost two games to struggling Aspen and Battle Mountain, or the one that has won 10 other games and looked primed for a deep playoff run?
Today and Saturday will answer that question.
Steamboat (10-2 overall, 6-1 in the Foothills Conference) plays at 5:45 p.m. today at No. 1 Regis Jesuit, before a 6 p.m. game Saturday at home against No. 4 Ralston Valley.
The Sailors, who dropped from No. 2 to No. 5 in The Denver Post polls after a 5-2 loss at Battle Mountain, will have a better idea after this weekend where they stand in terms of the playoff picture.
“We know these teams will be there at the end,” Steamboat coach Jeff Ruff said. “We know these are the teams we have to beat to make it to the end.”
